Just writing what I heard man. Does anyone pick according to what they hear anyways. Just a place to vent @ times I guess. Be happy the season is coming despite what happens, we are only on this earth for a short time. I don't mind the money but, I love being out there more. Lower Naas always pops before upper. Bless all Matsi fanatics.

Kieth Hunter if you are out there: Going to head up to the Zoo here pretty quick...could probably talk a few folks into selling to you if you want to try your hand at pines this year - if any of your connections are interested that is. I'll look after the shipping from my end. Just a thought. Oh, and Bunk, if you read this, I'll be camped at the 'S' bends, look for me there.

Hello, I picked Ritchie - Cedarville -Kitwanga-Harper areas over 15 years ago - and now just moved back to Kitimat - I am really feeling "Button Fever" again just reading these posts.....LOL... Anyways, I am just trying to catch up to speed here. I realize it's a different "Pickers World" out there now, and prices will never be the same....but $1-4 per lb???? The problem is I can't resist the urges to get out there again, so even for the fun of it I'm heading out today or tomorrow -soon? - to scout around. I'm looking for anyone Terrace/Kitimat area--wanting to share gas costs for this expedition....I realize the Nass may not be popping quite yet, but I'd like to run around up there and be first on the mountain so to speak.... usually prices are higher at first if I remember correctly...?....anyways anyone interested can call me....I have a good 4x4 Toyota 4door/canopy 250-632-1395 (Mickey & his 2 big dogs who ride in the back wherever he goes...:-)

Huge flush of matsies in Nunavut, prices hitting record low since 1974 ($0.75/lb) each picker getting between 300-400 lbs in a few hours pick, no one going off the roadsides. Joe Chung has bought up the airlines and is only using for mushroom transport, no passengers have been able to leave for 2 weeks. Largest white chantrelle picked in southern B.C. in august weighs in at 7.2 lbs and looks like a giant moose antler, King boletes continue to pop at the ol onion, most harvests being worm infested. 2 pickers reported to have been asphyxiated by the hatching flies that had lodged in thier noses. to date 5 lobster mushrooms have been found in British Columbia and are at risk of being put on the endangered species list. More mushroom news as it happens.....

The Matsi prices are not going to be any better this year. Pickers will sell at $1 to $4 a lb. Buyers know this and will work the prices back to this by mid Sept. This is why the Buyers sell at these prices.... "Because they Can". I had to quit Picking , Go to college and get a real job. I did enjoy the outdoors and miss picking. Be safe out the everyone.

I don't think the wolverine was thought extinct on Vancouver Island, it's the marmot which is Canada's most endangered animal, thought extinct on the Island in the '90's and is one of the rarest animals on the planet! There are now several captive breeding stations which are slowly increasing numbers .

Gulo-Gulo, Vancouver Island Wolverine. Seen two over the years, one last year on a logging road. Not a Fisher. Alot of info on the Net. Red listed but certainly not extinct as thought in the 1960s, hell they hadn't even started to clearcut alot of the Island and only said they were extinct cause nobody seen any... these days plenty of habitat for Gulo- Gulo C :}

arf. There is active logging on the Arber, which is off a road off another off the Harper.Sorry I can't remember the name of the road off the Harper,but it is just past the Nass river bridge crossing.Any pickers driving the Harper be careful.There are logging trucks coming on to the Harper not far past the Nass river crossing,Visibility is limited due to brush etc... Also garf, the Nass and the Harper usually do not flush at the same time.As you already know every area has its own time line. Also I just talked to a contractor who is starting a brushing contract on the Harper.As for markets for logs,the Chinese have recently signed a major contract for timber on the Orenda road past the former Elsworth logging camp.

However there are some Chantys comming in on the Island, of course I'll keep that under my hat, however not my territory. I have my own rule of thumb for Matsi... if it starts to rain mid August for 2 weeks, then a good time ahead... looks like some precipitaion by the weekend, however we nee a real good dump. IF we get the moisture and IF the temperature drops, we can still get a good Matsi season without bugs. Many years the big flush can be over by Oct 10th. My sentiments. That said many patches are simply gone by logging, including The Cash Cow which should have been a preserve for locals. . C

Enjoy fresh good food like fish and wild mushrooms as the environment is getting more polluted.. Did anyone see the piles of thousands of bunkers (deepwater fish) washed up on the New Jersey Shore (MSNBC film)? The seagulls did not even want to eat them! ( And yes, southern ocean currents go up the Atlantic Coast). Is something rotten in Denmark too? Ask BP and others......As for me I'm eating my chantrelles when they drop to a dollar this year....Who can get fresh healthy food like that for so little?

I did a little research on solar flares (CME's) seems like the bumper crops of pine came after the Sun tickeled the Earths magneticsphere, wouldn't that be fun?

I would really like to thank the members of chilcotin first nation who have smeared their ancestry by their actions. Stealing firewood from an 80 year old man who takes care of a bunch of cabins... shameful! When he followed them back to their camping area with his wood he confronted them demanding they return what they had taken. George and his Crew threatened to kill the old man. the RCMP were called over the matter. Bow your heads in Shame chilcotin pickers. you win the 2010 morel season walk of shame award.

chaneys and lobsters along the coast line were the fog is just a few miles inland. do most of your looking on the north facing side of the hills because most of the wind and water from the fog is coming from northwest this time of the year also look for any kind of water and be sure to look under the ferns thats where you will find the most this time of year and of crouse sum rain would help to. lol peace

Hello folk, Well the chanterelle , black trumpet , hell,, as a matter of fact all the summer mushroom crop in new england was a bust, powder dry, not shrooms at all , with few amazing exemptions , smooth chanterrels ( cantharellus lateritius ] and some [wormy] boletes survived the drought, Those chanterelles are amazing, they can fully regenerate and actually thrive after a massive worm infestation , not even traces of worm holes remain after time, that type of chanterelle appears to grow even healthier after a worm infestation, , at least the weather is not as hot now, hope for some rain and maybe a fall crop, be well all and full buckets to you ,since my bucket is collecting dust,

The movie was pretty cool I thought, but I think a lot of people are making a lot of money off another hoax like Y2K, 12/21/12 will be another winter solstice day! By January 2013 a lot of people will feel like fools for beleaving all the hype the shyster's have pulled to make money!
