Anyone seen chris m's "the mushroom hunter" pilot trailer? What a joke....And a jerk. He probably paid those boys off for their patch and then beat them at the "contest"....

I was being facetious, lol. .............. I have learned by sad experience that there are persons who used information I had shared to compete with me in selling and thus I have never covered all of my research expenses. Nefarious thief's have stolen my photographs to enhance their web sites or books and I learned to keep my favorite photographs to myself for future use in economic endeavors. Currently if someone takes my photos unlawfully then hopefully it will either advertise for me or prove their perfidy. If I excluded everyone in sharing some of my research information then my desired goals of selling my photo art on canvas etc might never get off the ground. I deliberately exclude conditions or locations involving how or where morels that I have photographed grow. Numerous commercial harvesters know all or more than I may know and others used my information to become commercial. I have also learned that a self-proclaimed mushroom expert and some government researchers know very little and their ego is easily bruised if I inform them of possible errors in their published information. One NW group who had government funding or were actual government employees made a cyber attack on my computer after I sent personal Emails to them to help shed light on errors found in their published research. I shared some of my physical photographic research on one site to help newbees see something from a differing perspective and got attacked for showing the flaws in information shared by those who seemed to feel that their established published information was true fact with no possible opposing opinion. My biggest detractors use pseudonyms to hide behind, their identity may be hidden but their purposes seem clear. I on the other hand show my face and true name.

Did you all know that one of the first orders of business for the US Food and Drug Administration after it was formed was to round up and burn books? As to the matter of disappearing info, if I was responsible for that, it is still available. You just have to look for it. I am not a lawyer, but you may laugh when you figure it out. You are not making any specific claims. You say you use it yourself and don't say what you think it does for you. Quite a bit different then saying your cottage industry produced fractionated mushroom extracts cure or treat something then posting subjective testimonial evidence. The question that I have wanted to ask you is, "Why?" Why do you feel compelled to capture and name everything then display it for the public? Why do you feel compelled to give away your knowledge for free to those that have no respect for the knowledge or your journey to that knowledge? Now I think that I know the answer to that. I am willing to bet that it isn't for the several hundred that want to understand, it is not for the 50 that think they understand, it is for the 8 that can actually discuss it with you.* Congrats, Lobo, you almost got it right. Next time we meet I will tell you a few points that you should probably include in your morel treatise. I used to do this to sell what I collected. Time for the next act. LOL! *The FDA has not evaluated these statements and they are not meant to represent actual numbers.

Hi all, I am back again. I am trying to get in touch with some peeps I first bought mushrooms from in here back in 2001 or so. There name was rod and marylou Vanoven I believe. I know they did live in Florence Oregon the last time I spoke to them in August of 2003. I did have there info but I have since been through a divorce and can't find the info. I did look up picker info Andy and it had been removed a few years back. If someone has info I wo9uld love to get in touch with them. My wife and I are currently looking at a property near them in Oregon. Thanks All! duncanindaburgh

golly-gosh, maybe I can no longer say on my site "I PERSONALLY UTILIZE THIS MUSHROOM FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES. I chop it up and dry it completely prior to brewing it for tea." http://morel-doctor.com/conks/conks-main.htm I am not selling it but perhaps they will see this and give me input also about the legality of my site. There is a site that used to make numerous medicinal claims about this mushroom but perhaps they have done the FDA thing to enable making their claims or if by making Native American claims the FDA leaves them alone.

NoseSupplements: The notion that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts is something that often escapes the rigours of laboratory science-based thinking. I think sometimes that the protocols are designed to meet narrowly defined thresholds but do not have the intent of understanding the full scope of all the dynamics of variances. I agree with your thoughts that probably what triggered this warning letter to that the website was making claims that crossed into medical treatment claims and that the FDA viewed as being within the FDA guidelines.

Just stickin' my knows in again. I am not a lawyer but play one when I make my web sites. I have had one of those letters before when I was selling supplements for a MLM company. Pretty standard first letter from the FDA when a company markets their product as medicine without going through the drug approval process. The FDA really started cracking down on health claims for food supplements sold over the Internet in about '96. It looks like some of the claims made would require proof under our current laws. Some of the claims would probably be ok, but do you really want to fight with the FDA? The company really shouldn't have any problem if they tone down the claims, which seem to me to be rather inflated. Another solution: Pay to have your specific fractionated product approved as a drug, since that is how you are marketing it. The big drug companies have been making fractionated extractions from mushrooms and paying to have their specifically extracted molecules approved as medicine. Personally, I prefer unfractionated extractions for myself and my friends. One question that I have always pondered about raising "annual" saprophytic polypores: What happens to the investigative evidence gathered to prove the efficacy of a product made from a certain strain when the potency of the strain gets depleted after many generations of being raised on rice hulls instead of on media with more diverse turpinoids and polysaccharide chains? "HUH?" is the response I expect and that is not really okay.

truffles produce a gas that smells so critters can find and eat them. That is the only way the spores can spread. I have recently learned that if I put my truffles in a small airtight container, they seem to choke themselves out, and have kind of a fermented smell to the blacks and a fuel smell to the whites. Truffles need to breath. So I will store them in large containers with minute rice. Truffle season is just getting good up here in wa

Hello 'duncan in da burgh"... Thanks for the shout out. Damn hope someone can supply a cook with his mushrooms. and a new wife, cool. That's better than finding a new mushroom patch. (no hunting involved) lol. Wish I could help with the supply.... But I/we have been out of the loop for almost 2 years. Always the hope of getting back on the road just one more time. Good luck with your new adventures....

Hey dano, matsiman, I was just at the February meeting for SVIMS, and one of our members brought in an Oregon White Truffle, and a Black Truffle. The OWT smelled like a wonderful cheese, but the black one was a little ... not to my taste! lol... Apparently the Brown Truffle is very good tasting (according to the chef in the club). Seeing your posts about Rhizopogon makes me mention it. How well are people doing with finding truffles? It sounds like the market for them is intense. She brought these back from the Oregon Truffle Festival the other day. It was also mentioned that they have an association with old growth forests - that they feed voles and flying squirrels, which, in turn, feed the spotted owl... Any thoughts on this? I am willing to take this conversation to the bull board if it's not useful for this one. Cheers, shroomkid.
