RE the Watson lake burn hwy 37 One of the best burns ive seen in a long time. 38000 hcts. with lots of ground unpicked for long distance hikers left. 3 forest service rds and lots of hwy picking, lots of lakes. Some of the largest conicas ive ever seen. fires morels just kicking in now. 3-4 buyes about paying over 4$ with one buyer paying over 8$ but I promissed not to say his name. I expect this fire to produce into Aug. if there is rains. LOTS of mosquitoes.... full buckets to all.... Randy

Im only going to post this once. I have nvr givin Chris M permission to use any of my work ie: photos or written storries in a book for him to make money from. I did give him permission to use my work on his website to promote wild mushrooms as that benifits us all. I have helped him out of a spot in a past and nvr recieved a thank you or kiss my ass in return. That hurt. Chris if you read this I want you to either remove my work from your book or pay me some cash and percentage of sales from the book, along with credit for all work. I will hold you to task on this issue.... kingmorel aka Randy Marchand

Hey everyone, Just wondering if anyone has an update for the Chilcotin and Nazko/Pelican Lake burns for morels. I know the Chilcotin buyers are paying $4-5 but does anyone know about the Nazko buyers? The black morels seem to be nearing the end of their flush as of June 19. Will More be good to go by this weekend? Any Info on these surrounding areas is welcome. Happy hunting!

weasel-hopper; I originally planed to publish via educational adventure stories for children but have never gotten it off the ground. I think that puzzled-mattie's granddaughter got tired of waiting for me to publish, by now she is probably grown past the interested age. ................ .................. TK; sorry I have not gotten back with any info on the area I was researching, it was an awesome pick. I did not have internet access there and even here I have only two bars. My mobile Broadband service has no roaming on it so even if I get a cell phone service bar or two I may not get any or very poor internet. Even here it has dropped me once while attempting to make this post. ............................ I am looking up at a burnsite that is still under deep snow for the most part with access being a long hike in. I was going to take this route over a mountain pass to go hunt gold but now I shall need to try a different route. ........................ I did get a call last night that clarified some of the earlier information I had received. The foray leader in question was asked to leave by the buyers at the station because they had a line of pickers ready to sell which might go elsewhere if they have to wait while newbees who appeared to be under the influence of possible illicit substances might wish to interrupt. No cops were called at that time but the cops did serve a warrant and allegedly did make a couple arrests, so it was a bit hectic at Jack Creek then. The buyer in charge called the boss buyer and he called me but some of the information got scrambled due to the situation up at Jack Creek and he was not able to clarify the information with me until last night when I had better cell reception. I apologized to him for posting the original information that I had received and hope that it is better understood now. ................................ May everyone have a productive search, I for one shall again be in an area where only satellite phones get reception.

TK, Too bad you cannot come down here, the naturals are very prolific this year due to the La Niņa effects of past months. I stopped in at an area I have been watching for the past two years after the USFS used a large contract chipper by a lake. Last year was too dry here but this year is a different story and I will need to obtain a commercial permit tomorrow so that I can profit from some of my research. ............... Does anyone know if there is still a ranger station in BLY that sells permits? ................ If no reply I may just go back to Lakeview, I don't particularly care for that RS due to a ranger there a few years ago, calling the tree that morels seem to love the most a WEED. They seem to enjoy eradicating the very tree that research indicates is most important in the process of establishing mycilia that other trees need to get their minerals through, in the Inland Northwest. Without such minerals the 'Money Trees' are affected but forest managers are more interested in trees such as Ponderosa. In their zeal they are destroying our forests, in my opinion. But then the Government often seems counterproductive to me. Their own research shows the importance of the mycilia but the foresters still do commercial thinning to destroy this tree and the FMO's keep writing fire prescriptions to eradicate the alleged weed trees. I have been told by several Fire Managers that such thinning and controlled burning does very little or nothing to stop a forest fire but it is 'job security' in a full time job instead of seasonal work. Our tax dollars at work, lol.

weasel-hopper; just small burnsites starting to produce here in the area I am researching but I have heard of a few kings popping for other folks. Too bad there are no buyers in the nearby town this year, often there are several. I hear from locals that it is a bad year in this area. Oh well more morels for me. ............. I am somewhere in the Blue Mountains where annual permit price doubled for this year, not currently in the LaGrande area. ............. Other burnsite information for folks interested in Idaho. I called the Boise and Challis forests and they are allowing personal use only this year. I know that there will be some who will try circumventing the forest cops but a word of caution ........ both of those forests have acquired gung-ho officers who enjoy busting pickers.

Response; It is a sorry day that we even need border cops, my sniffing days were in Europe with the US Air Force and I was very happy to get over and done with it. I worked as a regular police patrol dog cop in Texas, California & Korea but when I got to Spain I discovered that the only position for me was sniffing. .................................. TK; When we were discussing the alleged crack pipe thing a few days ago I got a call from a mushroom buyer who asked me who Chris Matherly was and then proceeded to tell me of what allegidly transpired at his buy station. Now I feel it necessary to APOLOGIZE once more to Chris because I am of the opinion that my chain-was-being-jerked just to see me make a fool of myself, he knows that I was a bit hot about my photos being utilized without permission and thus I was easy-prey for a laugh at my expense. Perhaps some day if Chris might desire to listen to the recorded conversation via the buyer, then maybe we can laugh about it and accept each other as friends. ................................ That buyer knows that I do research on what transpires in the wild gourmet mushroom industry and I believe that similar incidents have happened to me previously. This particular buyer has cost me more than a thousand dollars in wasted fuel expenses. Back when I was a newbee a buyer here in LaGrande Oregon used to send me to 'good spots' that often were not yet producing. I would dutifully return and report if I found morels or had not found any, I found out later that he would send his favorite commercial pickers out based upon my leg-work. Buyers sometimes send me wild-goose-chasing because they know that I will drive hundreds of miles just to take photographs of unusual morels and must think it a huge joke that I spend my retirement dollars so that they can have a laugh.

Golden Lobo, Don't get me started with any border crossing BS! I was going to fly to the USA a few years back and went through the friendly US customs, They asked me if I had any criminal charges. I responded that I had a minor drug charge.(not trafficking or cultivation for that purpose of trafficking) but cultivation for personal use. They stuck me in a small room with many cameras for over a hour, then told me I was SOL and couldn't cross the border. I told them I had a non refundable airline tickets as well as hotel rooms paid for etc... But to no avail. So don't go on a personal rant about Canadian customs. In my younger days before I even had a criminal record, the US customs thoroughly searched my car for over a half hour. Such is life when crossing borders!

sorry, sniffing around; it just seemed at the time that it was the girlfriend who made that and the other comment against SteveFromOregon, because during that time I was getting denial Emails from Chris Matherly who still claims that Randy and I gave him permission to utilize our photos and information in his book. I find it interesting that he knew how to place a copyright statement in his book prohibiting anyone from copying without written permission yet claims that we gave him verbal permission. ...... Isn't the border such a wonderful stopping point? Last time I crossed into Canada they spent two hours poking their fingers into all my food, clothes etc and finally decided that I had to give up my bear mace and purchase a new one in Canada. ................................... mtn morels; I just finished placing a page on my web site called' "COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT", it was Chris Matherly's Email this afternoon that triggered my anger release. ................................ King Morel Randy if you have time read what I said and if you do not agree to my verbiage then let me know and I will change it. TK, once more I must apologize if my information was not correct, I got the impression from a post from the recent past that you had taken August's place in the foray guiding business. .............. sniffing around; How appropriate, that is what I used to do in a past life, sniff around with a drug dog. Now sniffing is what we do in searching for wild gourmet fungi. Also...speaking of sniffing around, was that you with the foray leader this weekend sniffing around the buy stations, poking noses where they did not belong to see how many mushrooms had been purchased, is that why the cops were allegedly called?

Just for the record the only time I ever seen Chris Matherly in my life, (not meet!) was at the Crow Creek fire when August brought him in to supposedly (Just Film) the conica's for the Discovery Channel! Well it turned out to be a foray that August put on with Chris! There has been bad blood between August and I since that time though I have tried to let it go, A" won't! He does what he can to make me look bad. Life goes on, full buckets!!!

TK; You are correct as to one source and I had been told that it was a crack pipe, however it might have been a pot pipe. I could publish the photo of one I found in the weeds at that Crow Creek camp when I was there doing research & it was right where someone told me that you threw a broken one away. I have never used any illicit drugs so my experience is some what limited to my years working a narcotic sniffer dog where I only identified that the dog had made a 'drug alert' and the investigator in charge took over in the searching & collecting of evidence. I should clarify that it was not you at the Jack Creek camp this weekend but it was allegedly someone that you are associated with who organizes and conducts forays across the nation. I was at an Oregon mushroom buying station a few years back and the buyer pulled a glass bowl hookah type device out of a drawer in his trailer, then he remembered I was there and said, "you don't do this do you" and quickly placed the pipe back. I said, " that's OK, go ahead, I am leaving. I was completely fed-up with the system many years ago and currently do not much care what drugs people choose to use. My concern is related to persons driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

You are stupid dude, it is not just about the few pounds to take home. It is about the fellowship with Chris and other shroomers, all the fun we had together and of course Chris' great mushroom cuisine meals. I was on his foray and it was great. He cooked up over ten pounds of Morels and Boletes. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I also learned more from him in two days than from this board over the past two years...

TK, gee thanks for the 'look-tip', please share your expertise in foraging for morels in Arizona or other dry climates. I am always ready to learn from someone who knows more than I do, I often have difficulty finding morels where the soil has no moisture. I do enjoy hiking in the desert as well in moist coniferous forests and any day in the mountains is better than sitting in my office. I have not been through the Rim Rock Lake area since last November during the Matsutake season, perhaps I will get there later this spring when I finish my morel/fire research where I am at. I made my last run from the Packwood area in November and my last delivering & selling run of the year from South of Eugene Oregon. I still had 60 pounds of Chanterelles, a few Pom Poms and Matsutake by the time I got to SW Arizona for the winter. I donated the chanterelles to a Seniors Center and an Isiah 58 food kitchen. The best of luck to everyone in filling all of your buckets.

Desert dreamer, "...hope-springs-eternal..." or some similar quote seems applicable. Living in Flagstaff makes it easy to access the 'Schultz' but between the USFS restricting access and the dry winds the morel season is basically a no-show and where they are coming on the secrets are held very close to the vest, that fire messed up some very good porcini ground. After watching the La Niņa news this morning they showed the smoke pattern for the Willow fire which just may burn all the way to your area if the monsoons don't come soon enough to stop the fire progression. The fire is burning very hot and fast but there are almost always pockets of slow ground fire and islands after the crown and stand-replacement types have passed over.

Golden lobo, the smoke from the wallow fire has been sufficating in central and northern new mexico. While ill probably want to explore that burn next year if only to satisfy my curiousity, i have very little hope of it being worth the drive, even from abq. Its far too explosive of a fire to be any good even if it were in the pnw let alone az. Fwiw i did pick a handfull of morels in taos county over memorial day weekend. Have yall started to get some monsoon rains? Praying they get here soon as id rather the porcini and chanty patches didnt burn even if theres no season this year!

It is either a sad day or joyful one depending upon your perspective, at only 307 days old La Niņa has suffered death. Perhaps we will now have a fairly normal mushroom year. The Wallow fire seems to be a bit typical for a La Niņa weather pattern, we had a long dry spell followed by dry winds, resulting in poor morel production in Arizona this spring and now much of the state seems to be burning up. There might be good morel news next year if we get enough moisture and less soil drying wind.

Hey People, I'm sure you could get a lot more for them from any of the vendors at the Farmer's Market in Kamloops Saturday morning, you'd have to get here early around 7am, that way you could just sell to one of them. There is a lot of foot traffic. It's on St. Paul Street kiddy corner from the Coast Hotel.

Hi everyone. I was wanting to start picking this weekend maybe. I have never been but it would be nice to make some extra cash on the side. I have family in williams Lake, so that is where I would go. Is it too late to start? season already over? it would be awesome to get some help. maybe I could meet up with someone who could teach me a bit. anything would be greatly appreciated.

Well looks like Chris's foray in Oregon didn't go so well judging by the pics and there where over ten pickers. I know others in the same area that did much better before he got there and they didn't pay 200 dollars for a few pound of mushrooms at the most.

"shyanne apps"...... OUCH!! that hurts to read your post.... I am stuck at home, taking care of my Grand kids..... Makes me want to throw myself in front of a train when I read your posts. But I am glad someone is having fun. Small airtight stove a few bits of 2x4 and/or 2x2 a roll of building plastic and a good staple gun.... and you can build yourself a decent dryer in an afternoon..... if you have electricity just a fan moving the air through the structure will go a long way to drting them... Good luck

TK, For your info is way off and if Yakima Valley Mushroom Society had a Foray it was not on a Sunday and if they didn't get much on Saturday why then are you so happy about it. There not the type of people that get mad if they only pick 5 or six lbs. There happy to receive what is given and not brag about how good they clean up all the Morels like some people do TK. If you have a problem with me then why take it out on the group. It sounds to me you have a very deep dark side to you. I don't need your BS to make me out to look like you. you do that on your own. By the way how are things with you and Chris M doing now that your on his Pay and play mushroom Foray's. I have had all I needed to say and good luck and my best for have much more going for me and it does take my time away from this board and if I pass by the board here and someone wants to learn something I well help them. I have a good understand on why Andy has put this board together and it was Good but now just like all those good people that have given much to this board Along with Andy have stop posting good info. But there is a small group still here that add BS just like you,TK. Most don't really much about you are even me. Very sorry to those that have become new member's on this board for there is good info here and there are still some good people that have been here a long time but just read the board now and would help you out on learn. You just need to seek out are should I say weed out the weeds trust the seeded one's that well help you grow no what some people never Learn. Well return when Spring season is over and Summer season begins.........A"

Hey Everyone, I'm selling these cool mushroom kits! Check This Out! Glow-in-the-Dark Mushroom Growing Kit A study in bioluminescence Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. Its name is a hybrid word, originating from the Greek bios for "living" and the Latin lumen "light". For millennium, people have referred to it as Foxfire, "Cold Fire", "Will-o'-the-Wisp" or "Faerie Fire." Benjamin Franklin suggested using it to light the first submarines and Mark Twain writes about Foxfire as a source of light for Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. Despite its illustriouse history, YOU can grow it at home with your Glow-in-the-Dark mushroom kit. Your kit includes everything you need (except the log!) to grow your own Fearie Fire. You also get a wonderful booklet that tells you more about the science behind bioluminescence, its lore, other species, and its place in nature. Whether you're doing it for fun or to light your submarine, Panellus Stipticus is an exciting project for the whole family, the classroom or even as a romantic centerpiece at your next dinner party! Panellus Stipticus is a basidiomycete that grows on wood and produces fruiting bodies similar to oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus spp.) This is one of the brightest glowing fungi that can be seen with the naked eye. it glows best when cultivated on wood substrates as recommended in this kit. Many species are luminescent, but most are only visible under a micoscope or in very low-light conditions. The mushrooms themselves glow very brightly and can be easily observed in less than complete darkness, you will be amazed by this mushroom. www.forestorganics.net

Silly season for some begins. same old same old for them as misery loves company. Its similar to ugly picking grounds, avoid. i too thought that this sight was at times beyond ridiculous but when you weed thru the verbal bs from a small few, there's value. Seek and keep with the positive, professional people and perhaps make some connections. I manages to pick nearly 50 lbs in a day and Whew! alot of work but enjoyed the canoe ride. Keep positive and stay safe.
