Hi Everybody! I've been out of the patch for about a decade now but i want to pick morels next summer in the Yukon and BC. Any good forest fires in the summer of 2012 that may yield decent poundage? I've done road picks but prefer to colloborate with others on a fly-in for up to 3 months. I have plenty of northern experience and have lived in the Yukon before.

just to inform mad morel that on the west side of cascades is about the same. the amount of mushrooms growing in the forest here is fantastic. we havnt had any rain for so long that i was sure the shrooms would not grow. now the chanties are everywhere.the only reason i see for this is the wonderful setup we had this spring.massive amounts of alatropa in every patch ive checked even in places that had none in previous years.i have picked when the weather has been like this jackets in morning t-shirts afternoon and we did very well, im talking pine mushrooms.i will go on thursday for a peek. getting cold at night now should force somthing to happen....i hope. stay safe my friends

For this groups general information, I have started a Facebook Page entitled "Chris Matherly Complaint Center." I hope to gather information over these next few months to document and eventually hand them over to the authorities. He barked up the wrong tree when he messed with me. And Chris, if you're reading this... just "get over it."

Chris Matherly is one horrible snake, he's again asking for money from people, life time membership? Make him payments? Are you kidding? I just got an email from him. Besides asking to be removed from his mailing list many many times. He lied, never gave us our foray dvd, T-shirt from it, all that and we cooked the first night demonstration he said he would but ended up leaving to get the crappy steaks for the last big feast on Sunday night when no one was there because they went home. We helped him cook/run his stupid big feast meal that was really ameture for us and another couple. He has no idea how to cook or prepare a decent meal as he reports. He's worse than a camp cook, nothing more. His lunches, lol. This was the funniest. White bread, lunch meat, mayo and mustard you were suppose to put together on your own out of packages/bags? And the last day he brought nothing for lunch and the guests as us were dividing and sharing what we had in our own cars along with water as he said he'd provide. Just putting it out there...get scammed once...learn

The way I see it,Chris is OLD new's. why even talk about him?. I was ask by a friend if I would like to hook up with Chris because I was also looking to do the same line of work but not like chris has done to the poor people have fallen into. There are some people that have gone on the foray's of chris when I was the field boss. Most of them still have contact with me and do not thank much or have anything to do with him. There good people and like to learn more from what I know and still learn about mushrooms that Chris well never learn by his self. It's better to let people know what there in for with chris and what there money is paying for. If you have somthing to say about him go to facebook and look his site up and tell the people there what they get for there money from chris. I like to let this go from this site but we know it's not over tell the fat boy chris is no more...........A"

This is "Gringanica" once again and I just got off the phone with Gerry Landry who is in British Columbia. We had an extensive talk about Chris Matherly who is gaining an internet reputation for ripping people off financially and trying to hide it from all prospective foray participants. Gerry Landry informed me that Chris Matherly promised to fill his camp with mushroom hunters a number of years back and ended up only coming up with around 7 people willing to participate in the foray. Gerry Landry had to cancel the foray and is out to the tune of $250,000 because had Chris kept his promise, that would have been Gerry's profit for the year. Also on this particular foray, since it was cancelled, Chris has not refunded many of the members' monies. So yes... let the internet world know that Chris Matherly is NOT to be trusted. I got lucky in that I finally got the book I ordered from him, but Chris Matherly gave me a string of excuses as to why it hadn't come yet, including a lie that the US postal service lost it in the mail. Yea.. uh huh... happens all the time... sure. Then Chris Matherly told me he "found" the missing package and on July 2nd, mailed it to me. When I GOT the blessed book after long last, the post mark on the package was July 10th, which means this was one of Chris Matherly's MANY MANY MANY lies that he is now infamous for. In my opinion, you know when Chris Matherly is lying if you see his lips moving. He wrote me an email this week bemoaning the fact that he has had a "hard" 3 weeks and why am I being "so judgemental" and to boot, told me to "get over it ." Yea.. so if you lie to me, it's ok and I'll just roll over and play dead. Chris Matherly I am outing you anywhere in the net I see fit and while you might block or unfriend me on YOUR sites, this internet is a BIG PLACE and you cannot hide forever. For all to make note of... Chris Matherly is "CEO" (sounds so important, doesn't it?) on the Morel Mushroom Hunting Club and he has his FB page and his YouTube videos plastered all over the net. BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CHRIS MATHERLY! What he did with Gerry Landry is LITERALLY CRIMINAL and thus Chris should be behind bars rather than roaming the woods claiming to be this mushroom king when he is nothing more than a liar and a cheat and a thief. Chris Matherly, I'm not going away.

The funny part about all this after I made sure Chris Matherly was "outed", he told me he has had three weeks of terrible things happening to him. Hmmm.... karma? He then told me to "get over it." ha. This man is NON-repentant and wants to sweep his mistakes under the rug. To admit he's wrong would ruin him!

Sometime between thanksgiving and the new year is when you should be doing your Morel research..... at least in B.C. The forestry usually has all the wild fire info on their sight.... You just have to do a little digging..... in most cases you can get the boundary maps fire history etc. Like any job that you do in life, the more you do it the easier it gets. I'm not saying it is EASY....but with an investment of time and a half decent printer...... I have all the fire info I need for the next season, in about 10 days. BTW....The Forestry usually archives all their past season fire info in Feb., Making it harder to find.... So "Early bird gets the best worm>>> Also if you take the time, you can print out the boundary maps as a number of separate sheets and then tape them together with "magic tape". I find this very useful, as it gives me room to make notes on the maps.... It is also possible to make copies with ToPoG lines etc... But I will let you guys figure that out.... Have fun and possible learn a bunch of stuff about your computer in the process..... :)

When myself or any true mushroom connoisseur desires a particular variety of mushroom for any culinary masterpiece they most certainly are not going to substitute something else for morels. A morel lover will do all that they can to provide true morels, not some imaginary substitute. LMAO

Girls, girls, take a look around you and there are a thousand items that have a way worse "footprint" than sending a shef morels in Utah. The mushrooms you "have sold" have gone farther mostly. Obviously you are not out looking for mushrooms or finding. :) I sent you an email Mr Utah Chef :)

My point exactly. if morels are rare in your area, use something else instead of having them shipped in. Use your imagination if you have one. Whatever it is, will be fresher, cost less and better for the planet and local economy.

...now that is an interesting concept except that morels are fairly rare where that chef lives. I have done morel research in his area & the season does not even normally start for another month even when they do grow. He only wants about four pounds for a special dinner, so I gave him the phone number of a 'born & grown in Oregon' buyer that I trust. ......... ......... Incidentally when I called Joe I informed him that a mutual friend "Murray Council", the person Joe grew up selling matsutake to with his father, died yesterday morning. Rest in Peace Murray...

Hey Y'all - Your good buddy Chris Matherly of the Morel Mushroom Hunting Club must have found some new money as he is now invading Salt Point Park in California with a camera crew! Salt Point Park is the adopted home of the mushroom clubs in northern Cal. The mushroom club members seem to have no knowledge of the experience of some on this board. I was there about 6 weeks ago and took some very nice pics. Most of the shots were of trampled forbs and shrubs, slaughtered, slashed, decomposing butts and other remains of edible mushrooms of all types, massive ground disturbance due to duff layer removal, litter, excessive Law Enforcement Officer presence and all of the other inherent problems with groups of people collecting mushrooms in a concentrated area. To put it bluntly, it looked as bad as Sisters around Jack Creek has the past four or five years. Cheers.
