August there was a huge burn near Wenatche last summer! I have a topo on CD's of the whole state that should prove useful to us.

The last two to three day's I almost believe I live in the Banana Belt it's really been nice around avalanches to the north,to the west, to the south and to the east and I also see high water's comeing this spring. We well all have a brake in the weather next week.by the way Snoqualmie pass is still closed and don't know when it well open also Stevens pass is closed as well, white pass is open. Snoqualmie pass has had around five to six feet in five.

Mushroom Mary; It was snowing here in the "Banana Belt" since about 5 am this morning with a short break and now it is coming down again but the winds are only about 10 mph. ... I got two inches on the level with some bare patches due to wind but other valley areas may have ten or more inches with drifts to 24 inches due to winds up to 40 mph early on today. ....Viva La Nina .... .... Big A'; We have a couple highways closed due to avalanches and homes in the steep valleys are evacuated in the Sun Valley area with restrictions on even using snow blowers due to the vibrations possibly triggering snow slides. .... .... There is little chance that our "Whistle Pigs" will even be able to climb through the snow to try and see their shadows so maybe an early spring may yet occur ... ???

snoqualmie pass and white pass are really takeing on the snow this year more than I can recall. Marin it's going take sometime before we can get into the burn this year, It could be med july at the late's. There is around fifty feet of snow up there and we still half two more month's of snow up high.

Lone Lobo, they said on the weather on my news this am that Boise was going to get something like 24" of snow today! I hope for your sake that's not true. BUT I also heard Snoqualmie Pass had a huge avalanche closing it down yet again and burying some cars along the way. We have snow on the ground but it's not going anywhere as temps have still been pretty cold. I think today, finally, we are going to get all the way up to 32.... actual freezing temp. Also another storm is on it's way, so here we go again. It sounds like it's mostly going to be in the NW part of Montana this time so we might get some but not much as usual. But, where it counts for the morels, they are getting dumped on. Lookout Pass is only open for emergency travel only....again! Stay warm peeps.

Morel Fever is growing in my feet so bad that I have to go out and shovel snow to medicinally slow it down...lol ... It's like taking a BIG CHILL PILL .... The white fluffies just keep on falling and blowing, it looks like I was wrong about this being a drought year because LaNina is doing a bang-up-job at covering the high country enough that the streams will be too muddy and running high to do the gold getting that I had hoped to do ....

Thanks for the advice everyone... my hot water came back on last night just after midnight and the water was gushing out of the bathtub faucet and I couldn't turn it off cuz the knobs were damaged from being frozen! It was the wind coming from the north that did it.... anyway, it's all good now and everything is fixed. The temps even got up to 20 today but back down to 9 now. We will go below 0 again tonight but not like last night that went well below -20 here. At least now I don't have to boil water to do dishes!! It's snowing right now and there are snow drifts all over my property with some over 3 feet deep. I need to find my darn snow shovel!! Ciao ya'all! Going to go stoke the fire!

awww, mushroom mary you now have the snow and the right temperature to do the rollin-in-the-snow bit after soaking in the tub and then getting back in for the best natural rush you may ever have .... why waste it. ... ... As for cold weather I open hot and cold taps just a wee bit and let them run 24-7 once the temps drop near zoro, oops ... "zero" ... lol and the pipes stay open, of course heat tapes and space heaters can help lots. The winter it got down to -25 here the pipes stayed clear with no extra heating necessary. .... .... A'; Alice & bunny may be hiding in the Ape Cave to keep warm ... we had a balmy morning so I did not need to let the water run but did open cabinet doors where pipes run to the kitchen sink because that is enough warmth until it gets down towards 00, now that the sun is shining on the snow we may get up to + 24 today.

Northern Cal is busting out, blacks, hedgehogs, and yellowfeet in prime shape, with golden and white chanterelles still hanging in there. Prices at the booths is only about $1.50, so I'm drying anything that I can't sell to restaurants or stores. It kills me to see retail prices around $20.00/# with pickers getting $1.50. The wreath from Joe chung mushroom at Artheana's service was wonderful to see made me think and be thankful that I was part of this group. When Joe and Cathy Salvo attended her service it made me cry just to know how they took the time to stand beside me. There were many pickers and buyers there also. I just want you each to remember that each person you talk about here has feeling and are human. Thank you all for being here for us. ronda & lomer

Hey Randy, you're right, frozen matsis are pretty good. My wife just made some rice balls with some frozen matsis. Nice texture, couldn't tell they were frozen. The dried ones can be pretty chewy / woody in places if they haven't been soaked for a long time. Anyway, bought a huge frozen porcini today. 330g @$30/kg. Supposedly from Italy. Going to try it later this week. Do mushrooms absorb extra moisture when they are frozen? And does anyone know if woods ear can be cultivated? -Tom

Boletus Joe, I only use the windows portion for Quickbooks and Word. Everything else is purely done with Mac applications so no worry about viruses or spyware. All browsing is done with Safari. The culprits are Internet Explorer and Outlook Express both Microsoft applications used in conjunction with Windows...but if ya don't use em, it won't hurt ya!!! I've never even turned em on with this new puter.

Carla, the very cool thing about the new mac computers with the Intel computer processors is you can use it as a mac or with Windows. I'm using a virtual machine program called Fusion and it works great. You can have both open at the same time. So you can use your software you already have for your PC and then have the benefits of using the Mac OS x Leopard and avoid viruses and spyware!!! Yay..... no more spyware.... I needed to have my Quickbooks for my business on my new puter but didn't want to start with new software so I just use QB in windows but ONLY use mac mail and Safari to go online so therefore no viruses and spyware. I really love this new computer and it's super fast too...also very purty!!

I question a 1 source availability on the price, almost as is we are being directed to believe our gov't's report and of course who knows where they got thier info from. Thanks Again... Gerry L.

Hi Gecko. I did send some pickers down to him because my price was 3.50 and he was still at 6.00 and he refused to buy their mushrooms saying that he will only buy from those that have sold to him daily and now I just got off the phone with a fella that I know to be truthful and he told me that "my neighbor" refused his mushrooms because he is not a daily regular of his and the other buyer paid him 2.00... Maybe it is time to quit picking for a few days and maybe that will get us some better prices in this neck of the woods...

morelmaniac, canadian matsutaki sold for an average last year at 12$ per 90 grams...on the other hand Japanise matsutaki sold for up to 700$ a kilo.I found this info at info export the canadian trade commissioner service.Hope this is of some help to you.I also read an article about Japans declining forests and along with that thier declining production of pine's...so maybe there's still hope for our industry.

Marin; Sorry about your computer going down. My mother board went south for the winter without me and I doubt that it was a virus that caused the grinding noise that comes out of the board area and prevented the computer from booting up. .... I deleted the friends on my space as a preliminary precaution to prevent the possibilities of a virus coming in and infecting my site and then transferring to visitors to my slide shows as is explained just above the friend’s area there. …. I may be a bit too paranoid and I may have over-reacted after reading what sundanzkidd told me. …. I canceled cable internet and returned my rented modem because I plan to save my nickels and dimes to get a lap-top, it was costing me almost $50.00 per month for cable.

My dad has a offer of 50$/lb but the work and not sell of his buttons he needs at least 75$/lb. A business told him if he dried them they would buy them, but now he wants to sell they only want the give him the 50 and they agreed on 113. Molly

Outsaid my window, A new day I see And only I can Determine What kind of day it well be. It can be Busy and sunny,Laughing and Grey, Or Boring and cold, Unhappy and Grey. My Own state Mind is the Determining Key, For I Am Only the Person I let Myself Be. I Can Be Thoughtful and Do All I Can to Help, Or Be Selfish and Think Just of Myself. I Can Enjoy What I Do and Make It Seem Fun,Or Grip and Complain and Make It Hard on Someone. I Can be Patient with Those Who May Not Understand,Or Belittle and Hurt Them as Much as I Can. Buyt I Have Faith in Myself, And I Believe What I Say,And I Personally Intend to Make The Best of Each Day.

sundanzkidd; that blank friend was our friend puzzledmattie here and I did not add her until I had called and double-checked with her. I think I will leave the space alone as it is for now, I believe that most of those who wish to view the slide shows will find them from links I sent out with a bit less than 200 paper Christmas cards which means I have a few left over if someone desires a hard copy. {E-mail request to moreldoctor at yahoo dot com} I also sent out almost that many E-mailed cards to girls I know and friends that I wished to share the shows with. .......... Carla; could you have a current price for premium dried morels when you call, thanks.

lobo = there in myspace u can make like 10 - 20 or 50 friends show up on your page or make them all hidden and not let anyone know you got friends, would be in your profile settings i think, i never added anyone who had no face or pictures, if it felt funny i never added them and denied their request... the security features are there u just have to play with them and find them and set um up and have a good running virus scan activated while visitin the site an ul be fine.... lots of rain some snow and cold here, tired of the down pours

Hi Famer. There are indeed 2 places to sell mushrooms in Eugene. One is called Pacific mushrooms and he is on Airport road, the other is called Mycological and he is a little harder to find but he is listed on information. I have personally sold mushrooms to both of them and they want top quality but they are honest people. Good Luck!!!

A' ; good to see you back after having internet connection challenges and changes, something about those storms coming in from the NW ..... they mostly go around the “banana belt valley” and none of the predicted winds this time ..... however the winds from the SW allegedly tipped three semi tractors with trailers and a motor home and they even closed I-84 again west of Ontario Oregon because of 0 visibility due to dust ..... the local ski area closed due to wind and reported gusts to 85 mph, however winds of 100 mph were reported from the coast on the news. ………… Woofer; on the news they are comparing the current coastal storm with the one in 1995 which is the one that came at the time areas up the Chetco produced the most chanterelles, hogs, feet and trumpets for me that I have ever seen and since you posted that you might be going that way to do a bit of foraging… good luck.. ………. Sundanzkidd; wishin ya many more happy birthdays, as I have said previously I am not very computer savvy and think that if it ain’t broke I won’t take the time to try and fix it until I have time to do more. For now I will just leave MY SPACE alone and not fight trying to patch their holes with my limited knowledge. Thank You for sharing your knowledge, already you have helped me to avoid getting viruses and by deleting my friends list I may not have to do any more there because my purposes at MY SPACE were to share mushroom photos and that is going on just fine for now.

The Pope took a couple of days off to visit the rugged mountains of Alaska for some sightseeing. He was cruising along the campground in the Pope Mobile when there was a frantic commotion just at the edge of the woods A helpless Democrat, wearing sandals, shorts, a 'Save the Whales' hat, and a 'To Hell with Bush' T-shirt, was screaming while struggling frantically, and thrashing around trying to free himself from the grasp of a huge grizzly. As the Pope watched in horror, a group of Republican loggers came racing up. One quickly fired a 44 magnum into the bear's chest. The other two reached up and pulled the bleeding, semiconscious Democrat from the bear's grasp. Then using long clubs, the three loggers finished off the bear and two of them threw it onto the bed of their truck while the other tenderly placed the injured Democrat in the back seat. As they prepared to leave, the Pope summoned them to come over. "I give you my blessing for your brave actions!" he told them. "I heard there was a bitter hatred between Republican loggers and Democratic Environmental activists, but now I've seen with my own eyes that this is not true." As the Pope drove off, one of the loggers asked his buddies, "Who was that guy?" "It was the Pope," another replied. "He's in direct contact with Heaven and has access to all wisdom." "Well," the logger said, "he may have access to all wisdom, but he doesn't know squat about bear hunting! By the way, is the bait holding up, or do we need to go back to Massachusetts and get another one?"

August; The strong Chinook from the SW is knocking out power, melting snow and breaking trees but by afternoon it is to be passed and letting your colder storm come in from NW with winds twice as stromg and more snow. ..... Gold has risen again and stocks are still falling ???? I would tend to think that may be a bit of a black-out showing ...

John, I suggest you go on craigslist.org and click on Idaho and then Boise and look under computers for sale. There are lots of them and they are not expensive. Would be better than what you have now! Still no snow here and going to be mid 40's here today. High wind warnings for later today which has been the norm this winter around here. I pity the PNW and CA with all the storms but I wish we could have just a little of the moisture everyone else is getting. Oh well... Hey, a big Happy Birthay to Sundanzkidd today!!! I suppose that I should mention that this morning I did the update for Adobe Reader from 7.0 to 7.0.9 and it was not compatable with the older computer I am using and thus I could no longer open my home page on My Space or other things where Adobe is used. Whenever I tried to enter a password there or to respond to a question sent from other places my computer would show error and shut down. ..... I had no problems entering such from the local library computer so now I figure to only use this one to respond in e-mail or here where Adobe is not needed.

I did it at the library today and left a message as to why on My Space, I plan to even cancel cable internet at home this week until I can justify spending the bucks to get a good computer........... August; Did you see ZZ TOP playing during half-time at the Bowl Game tonight ???The next storm for us is coming from California heading to the NE, currently the Sierras are reported to be getting 7 to 10 inches of snow per hour.

HELLO, EVERBODY, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AND MAY IT BE A GOOD ONE! A....how did your holiday go? mine went okay, it waas quiet but nice had a few beers and went to bed as soon as midnight hit! i was pretty tired. RAINBOW WARRIOR, how did your day go. the kids have fun. i haven't been on this sight for a while. thought i should say happy new year to everyone out there. met some people new years eve, and they took us out for lunch on new years day.that was nice, then after that i helped my bf finish putting a shed up for our landlord, he had an accident, slipped and broke his arm. poor guy. before that though i slipped and got a black eye.(different times though). what a way to bring in the new year huh! lol. well, you have a good one, i cant wait to go picking. talk to you later. chantrelly.

puzzledmattie, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. It is the hardest thing to do, I know. Every time I've ever had to put a dog down, I've run out and gotten another within the same week. It's never a replacement but it does ease the pain. John, I've been scouring over maps looking at the 740,000 acres of land in MT that burned last summer....not sure yet which way to head first. Never any burns near me, they are always a good 2+ hours away..... seems to be lots to choose from though.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL & hopefully full buckets in 2008 also. ........ puzzledmattie; I am so sorry for your loss of Weego, I enjoyed watching C&M's & your dogs each spring hunting morels and the trips up and down to the river chasing the gold. ........ Well the New Years Eve dinner and game nite is over and done and time to now focus on getting things lined out for the spring and summer research and forays. ... good luck to all ...
