Hi! Whoofer I don t personnally know you,but i have heard of a season happening on the mid-southwest but like it use be.Pricing should drop after holiday season, becoming in betwen the dimisting of the demand and the greed of certain mushrooms buyers ,till the previous week of valentine day which the demand increase but price should not be below 4.50/lb because of the value of the europeen currencies.

HI Mushroom Mary. I actually pick Black Trumpets but not on the coast, I have to go inland for those... ;-) I don't see that many in my buy station because of my location but there are tons of them in the Brookings area, it is a well known (to us locals) area for Blacks.

lonely lobo, what seems to be the problem with your myspace account? I haven't had any problems but I have just recently changed my password as someone sent me a trojan virus. Anytime you see a message in the comments section on someone's myspace page that refers to a photo about someone they say I can't believe they are showing those photos and myspace lets them....if you click on that link, you will get the trojan horse virus and it will be sent to all your myspace friends and messes up your computer until you are able to rid it of your hard drive. Someone sent one to me and I had a heck of a problem getting rid of it. That could be what happened to you. Call me and I can try to help you.......still no snow here. They keep forecasting it but nothing on the ground.... Carla what is coming in down your way? Do you ever see the black trumpets in your area? Do they grow in Oregon? I used to see tons of them in northern CA but from what I hear in OR they are not prolific.

Sundanzkidd; This is the message I get when trying to open a myspace link from my moreldoctor at yahoo email. "Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred. This error has been forwarded to MySpace's technical group. " ........ August; We got another 1/4 inch of fluffies, I guess that if they say we will get six inches enough times then it may finally happen.

Carla; I am very cautious about leaving any kind of paper trail or of telling anyone of finding gold. I used to share such information with anyone interested ..... I still tend to share with friends because it is like giving a gift but I am much more selective now compared to when I was younger. ..... There is one place that I prefer to keep to myself because of it's great value and my desire to keep it all natural, once you share such a secret it is no longer a secret. ..... I hope that no big companies ever figure it out and I only hike the distance to it about once each year and by not placing a mining claim on it there is no record that gold is hiding there.

Carla; we did not get the predicted six inches of snow here in the valley but I did blow up to 1/2 inch off the driveway this morning. ... We are less than 50% of normal snow depth in the mountains and that snow is fluffy with little water content. ... They say that it will take at least two years of normal precip to re-fill the reservoirs and I do not think that it will happen. ........ Old Farmers Alamanac is predicting a low water year for us and that should equate into more drought with fewer than normal morels in this area. .... Thankfully the Blue Mountains are storing up the snow that they are preventing from getting to us and with all of the burnsites there and predicted early spring, I expect more morels than normal in the Blues.

It is kind of dead here lately. .... As for gold, I know where there is enough to share all around but I do not like to see Mother Earth done wrong so I will not tell and perhaps no one will ever rape the land to get all the gold. .... I do agree that our government is too easily swayed by special interest groups whether they be for mining or for spotted owlies, butterflies or snales. ... We need to be good stewards of the earth but we do not need to become dependant upon foreign governments who desire to control or manipulate US. .... Therefore we should prudently develope our natural resources in ways the keep US independant from outside control.

pgs 46 & 47 of ICMJ; "The US Geological Survey reported that the US imported $132 billion in nonfuel minerals and metals in the year 2006. Many of these minerals and metals are not only necessary for us to maintain our standard of living but are also essential to the safety and security of our nation." {Without these minerals we would not have home appliances, TV's, computers, plumbing and home wiring for electricity, schools, or even pens & pencils, yet people continually try to destroy our nation by shutting down mining at home and thus make US dependant upon countries that may not care for our security.} China and India are the current bigger players with China outbidding and snapping up mineral leases in third world countries. "In mid-September China singed a deal with the Democratic Republic of Congo ... for exclusive rights. Congo will receive a loan of $3 billion to build highways, railways and two universities, thirty hospitals and more than 100 health care centers. Another $2 billion is to be spent on rehabilating mining infrastructure and setting up joint ventures in mining. " China has snatched up resources in other countries in exchange for infrastructure. .... "At a time when the US should be actively exploring and developing resources, we find ourselves facing threats of more cumbersome regulations with more lands being placed off-limits from mineral and metal development by Congress." ... "Our nation's spending priorities will need to shift drastically - away from counting butterflies and back to mapping potential deposites and promoting mineral and metal development at home - to have any hope of averting a crisis involving natural resources."

jm; there seems to be a constant battle to reduce public prospecting and from what I have read Washington State just keeps hammering at the little guy to reduce access. They aren't the only State but it seems like every time they take a little bit away they are back the next year doing it again and again. California also is pecking away at the prospector and soon if we wish to have computers, cel phones etc etc etc we will need to get the materials or finished product from countries like China and we will have made ourselves dependant by our own stupidity. .... .... Mushroom Mary Sunshine; I sure wish I did have an ounce to do that with. but instead of grubbing in the gravel the last few summers I spent my time researching and photographing mushrooms. .... .... August; six more inches predicted tonight here in the valley. .... .... Oregon Field Guy; I am still having difficulty accessing or sending messages at my space, the truffles arrived safely today.

It's only right that public lands be free of a fee. We have the right to enter the land's and they the forest service have no right to tell us that we must pay to enter public land's. If they would of sold the timber the right way and used the money the way it should of, they would not need to lay off there worker's.Congress is also to blame for not giving the tax money to the forest service, that it need's to operate the public lands right. I could also say that the Presidents of are country have to be blame for it also. There are to many road's that the forest service must maintaine for logging but then the land block's of logging company's that sent in-side of public land's should be maintain by them and not the forest service and not closed to the public access. All roads should be open and maintain for fire crew's and the public and no public land's should be closed from the public for habitat environment. No land should be closed from the public for any one use they should be open to all user's ( fishing, hunting, camping, gold hunter's,mushroom hunter's,brid watcher's and even nature lover's) and no man has the right to destroy that, that belong's to the public and the public must step up and protect and defend it from harm from those that would abuse there rights and other's that won't to protect the land from all use's. I say no small group should be able to dictate how are public lands should be used. That should be up to the people and not up for a vote. The lands have been put aside for the people and by the people.! Now I said what I needed to say.

sundanzkidd, it's not just going to effect California, it will block the US Forest Service and other federal agencies from charging Americans higher fees to access their public lands of which we aleady pay taxes toward public land use.....manicjon, contact me directly if you want this computer. I do not have the boxes so shipping won't be easy as it will have to be taken to a UPS store and have them pack it to ship.

That was what tax's was for long ago but if they sold all the timber to soon it's not for us to pay there way out. I know that those that buy the tember should pay for the road's and up keep. I would like to see open camp site's and not pay site's. and no moer mushroom premit's. They spend way to much already and for what. Are tree's belong here to help the small town people have work.

August; I have some patchy sunshine here today but could always use more, gold is at $824.40 so that makes the future glow brighter if the drought does stay through another summer. ........ I am in the process of brewing some Tiaga/Cambyi tea, it keeps my hair from falling out and plugging the shower drain as well as provide healthy options. .... Too bad I cannot feed it to my sick computer that has all of my photo files etc in it. I currently am still using the old tower that has windows 98 and since I got it elsewhere the system keeps telling me that I am not authorized to access some areas like my MY SPACE messages etc. I think that I will cancel my cable connection with the rented modum and my INVISUS anti spyware, anti virus and save the $70.00 each month to apply on a laptop. It only costs me the petrol to drive two miles to a free library to use their computers and I really do not need to be addicted to matsiman discussion board, so iffin you do not see me much you will understand why.

Mushroom Mary; I went looking for that Mac tower this morning when the sun came out but it was sold, then spent the day shopping in the snow-glare sunshine and took my self to dinner. I need to set the raindeer traps under the snow on the roof and then fall asleep waiting for the excitement... ...... You are welcome to have this snow, I can box it up on boxing day and donate it to you, bring a big truck if you come.

Boxing Day is celebrated in the Commonwealth countries such as England, Australia, New Zealand, BC, etc. The day after Christmas is boxing day and it's origins date back to the middle ages; the original purpose was to give boxes of food, clothing etc. to the needy or to people who worked for you. It's a public holiday in these countries so banks and federal offices are closed....the sun is out here so no snow at least for now....quit hogging it all, August and John!!!

I got this info from googling a Canadian site, December 26 Boxing Day Le lendemain de Noël Statutory in Ontario and federal jurisdictions. Day when shops sell off excess Christmas inventory. It is not an official Holiday in Quebec and is not a Statutory Holiday in British Columbia. Is that what it is, a "sale day" or is there more meaning hidden from those who don't know anything about it ?

Boletus Joe, my very first computer ...and even the second one were Macs. I always loved Mac but then it seemed I needed a PC to do all the things I needed to do with my business as in those days there just wasn't enough of a choice in software and I had no choice. Now that Mac is using an Intel processor I can have both in one machine and return to Mac for all the great graphics things one can do and use my Microsoft software on my Mac to do my Word documents and QuickBooks and other stuff I already have on my PC and would need on the Mac. I'm really excited to be able to make the switch back to my computing roots so to speak.....we had a tiny bit of snow this morning and now it's stopped. What stuck on the ground is already melted! We really need the moisture for the morels...but, that said, where the morels will be growing, there is plenty of snow covering them now. They were talking on the news last night that Montana wildfires last summer burned 740,000 acres. There will be good pickins' come Spring this next year...August...send that snow...we really need it here in my valley which is dry from all the horrible wind we've been having. Merry Christmas everyone!!

I hope you stay in touch with the forum. It would be very helpful to have voice from the other side of the business and another country. Especially after last seasons matutake prices. Have a great christmas.

Hey everyone...just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa...uh, did I miss anything??? ...so you have white fluffy stuff, huh manicjon? No snow where I am but that's par for he course over here in the desertland called the Jefferson Valley. Butte has some snow and so does Bozeman but as usual, none here. I guess I shoudn't complain but it would be nicer to look at than sepia toned grass and trees which is all it looks like now. I miss the vibrant greens of New Zealand....I feel like Dorothy in reverse...going from OZ back to her black and white reality.....Marin, sorry to hear about your puter.....mine was acting up yesterday so I spent several hours dumping stuff, defragmenting and cleaning up and it's better now. Still, I just ordered a new computer 'cuz I'm fed up with the junk that PC's have to deal with on a regular basis. I'm buying a new Mac desktop so no more viruses, no more spyware, etc. I'll keep the PC for backup stuff and since it's full of client files which I don't care to move. I enjoyed my macbook so much on my trip, writing my blog and editiing video etc. that it was an easy decision to go Mac all the way baby!!! Well, have fun in the snow, August and John and watch out for Alice and her silly wabbit....they may be hiding in a snow cave somewhere stashing all their mushies from the fall and drinking eggnog.....

Seasons greetings from tom & matsuko. We are spending the holidays in Lijiang, Yunnan. This is a main area for wild mushrooms in China. We had some stir fried matsutake and another one which i think is called "wood ear". Lots of shops selling dried matsutake, boletes and some other types which i haven't figured out yet. No morels though. The environment here is very different from other parts of China. No heavy industry, clean air, clean water. Will posts some pics later! In the meantime, have a great holiday everyone!

ZiQuinn ; hummmm, rubber trees give their inner juices to make rubber and maple trees give theirs to be made into syrup and etc etc etc ... I really have no clue as to how many trees give up their treasures to bless our lives but any more there are synthetic copies of the originals just like with drugs and the copies may not be as good as the natural God made original.

shoegy; nice play on words... ...A' A' A';Please try and keep your snow over there, I haven't cared much for any cold or snow after spending the record cold winter of 73-74 guarding bombs in Korea. .... Christmas morning it was -40 F when we got off shift at daylight and I thought it was cold but I got educated as to what cold was by mid February when they told us it hit -75 before factoring in the wind chill. .... You learn quickly to layer warm clothing and move slowly so as not to work up a sweat and seek shelter from the wind, insulated muckalucks could not stop the cold so we used bunny boots and our attack dogs had mockersuns and wool blanket covers with straps. .... Any human body part exposed directly to the cold and the "Hawk" {aka constant wind off the Yellow Sea} would imediately freeze so a guy had to be really careful with his... ummm ...ears & nose. .... The trigger-guards on our GAU's dropped open so that you did not need to take off the bunny mitten and glove layers to fire and thus protected the trigger-finger from becoming a pop-icycle.

August; Interstate 84 is closed from Ontario to LaGrande Oregon due to your storm, from what they say on the news too many big trucks did not chain-up and started spinning out and blocking the freeway. The main challenge is east of Baker city but they had to move the closure back to LaGrande because of all the stranded rigs waiting for the road to open and too many people waiting at Baker City and thus jammed up the roads in town. They closed the west bound lanes at Ontario but it is only rain there and rain here also.

Here's something I forgot in my previous posting... in the last week of november in mendo, a black toyota truck(tundra?)intentionally sideswiped my car in a turnout where i was parked. I heard the whole thing, but couldn't get out of the woods fast enough to do anything. It really freaked my dogs out, they were in the car at the time, although it didn't really damage my car much. First time I've had any grief in that area. Happy Hunting !!

In the middle of the night I woke up from MOREL DREAMING and took the main show off of the front My Space page to move it into the blog section and shortened another one to place on the main page…..when I shortened it the darn thing started duplicating photos and background stars…..so I went back to sleep for three hours. http://www.myspace.com/moreldoctor

truffle hound; Sometimes I use USPS Priority Mail to ship mushrooms if it is in a two-day delivery area in spring or summer but this time of year with all of the Holiday Shipping delivery may be four to the Midwest and they have had very cold weather. Your truffles could end up freezing inside a delivery truck and then turn to mush when they thaw back out.

truffle hound ; I prefer to ship fresh mushrooms in a perforated basket from one pound size to ten pounds. If they are placed in a non-breathable container they can sweat and spoil, this time of year they can freeze and then spoil as well as sweat, so insured overnight express is preferable. .... I have had truffles shipped to me several years ago from Cottage Grove Oregon that were wrapped in paper towels and placed inside a Federal Express Overnight Express box and they arrived just fine at Christmas time. .... I would surmise that if you desire to use a glass jar or Tupperware then it needs to be vacuum-packed to remove air. .... Some shipping companies allow you to ship with small bits of dry ice but it turns into carbon monoxide poisoning and I believe that you must declare it as a hazardous shipment.

Anyone have advise on the best way to send fresh truffles via mail. I was thinking of sending some of my newly found truffles to family in the midwest, but I don't want them to go bad in the process of shipping. What is the best container to ship them in (sealed glass jar, tupperware)? I assume express mail or overnight is best to insure the quality? Is dry-ice a possibility? Thanks in advance!

August; I often just boil about three cups worth for 20 minutes by using about one teaspoon of conk and a little of the root, then after drinking that over a period of about three days time I re-boil the same batch again in the tea-caddy with another two or three cups of water. .... Nope we didn't get any snow or rain here in the valley, the Blue Mountians captured it all, so no snow-shrumes for the Dr... ........ ngottlund ; Chris Matherly via his morel mushroom club is making a trip up there next summer with King Morel as guide & mentor if I understand correctly and it may be filmed by the Travel Channel. They may be offering only ten places and I do not know the cost or particulars but you may find it at his web site. .... My computer with all the links in it is disabled right now but Chris has his name on my friend list at: http://www.myspace.com/moreldoctor and you should be able to click on his photo of morels to get to his space and find a link to his site. .. good luck

Round 4,snowing again in this cold cold land.As I walk around the forest land looking for a warm camp fire. Up pop a rabbit from a hole in the ground. He was white as snow, I think that's what it was and he looked all around seeing nothing but me and the snow all around. The dam thing had the nerve to ask for a mitch,I ask him why and he said I need to start a fire so I can keep warm. I though to myself...a warm fire to get warm...so I grab my lighter from deep in my pocket and gave it to him just to see him jump back in to his hole and never to retrun. Now here I stand cold in this dam winter wonder land, as for the rabbit I hope he burn's his hair off.
