sniper, regarding boletes, i've little field experiece but look around everywhere (Audubon suggest pines, hemlocks, aspens and birches) especially after fall rainfalls. as with any shroom, if found, remember all around you: time, place, tree and plant species and flowering stages, etc...(biotic and abiotic stuff) hopefully other readers can share some insights too. hope this helps & best of luck.

howdy folks, here's a word from nor-cal. burn morels made a brief show, dried up by mid june. the big fires in the sierra were not even worth the drive. as of now, around 1,000,000 acres are burning, so smokey in my little town you can't see the mountains. some prime chanterelle and matsi areas burnt to the ground. maybe morels next year. Carla, my folks have a house in Brookings, what's up with the season in that area? I'm looking to pick and sell locally. Maybe in august or september...Thanks ,Clinton

So dont worry about it. Back in NM, going to check chantie and bolete patches this morning.

I remember several years ago a picker we knew got lost on Moon Mt. by Port Orford, Or. picking chantrelles. When they finally found him a few days later he was still packing his buckets. He was fed and arrested on outstanding warrants. Poor guy, they even left his chanties on the mountain...

Update. Looks like they found Robert alive and I guess well yesterday. As i predicted, he dropped into the Indian creek drainage and from what i hear hiked down to the middle fork salmon and was returning up the trail when spotted by air. searchers reached him, gave him food and water and was then arrested on outstanding warrants. Bummer on that but its good to hear he'll be OK.

Just a heads up to anyone that may know him. Robert the dread, from eugene/cottage grove, Or are has been missing in the bush outside yellow pine, Id since friday. No sign of him when we left the area yesterday afternoon still. ground crews (mostly friends and locals) have been searching for him since. They had been picking above stibnite and he didnt return to the truck before dark. His friends returned to town, got supplies and have been searching since. It seems this is low priority for local law enforcement/FS personel... but that is JMNSHO. Word was they were trying to get a bird in the air over the last 2 days, but may have been hampered by high winds? If you know him you know him you know he's not some city kid out in the bush for the 1st time, but time is obviously of the essence here. Think good thoughts.

PS its a proverbial dust bowl out there, and throughout most of the intermountain west.....sigh.
