00ps I neglected to say that the conk needs to be completely dried prior to using it for making the tea.
0k the info from the Native American Doctors site is sent to you August. I use a large crock pot that has high temperature settings reo-statted down to low, fill it full of water and place about two tablespoons of the conk chopped up into a metal tea caddy. The caddy will rise and fall in the water as the cooking process goes on. I also add some Ligusticum Canbyi root into my tea mix & bring it to a rolling boil and then reduce heat to just the top edge of boiling and let it cook for one hour with the lid on. I refrigerate the excess and drink it cold or re-heated. I drink about one cup every two or three days, unless feeling illness coming on and then I might drink 3 cups per day for two days to knock it out. One interesting thing I noticed is that my hair does not clog the shower drain as long as I am using the tea....no hair loss. .... Oh ya, I cook it outside for cleaner air inside. I have heard from some who use it for major health challenges that they figure to drink 6 ounces per day, 4 days on & then 3 days off.
I am getting sleepy ssllleeeeppy there for I am sleeeeeeeepiiiinnnggg.
August; Might I suggest some Devils Club tea or some made with Red Belted Conk, I will send an email with more info.
Loonie,op's there I go again sorry there loonly lobo just can't get it right. If I could. but I can't back up to rewrite this,I just don't know how.lol Augie is doing good he is watch a move called a Grandfather for Christmas on the Hall Mark channel. YA that marin or marion (what ever) is alway trying to get my goat but he has a long way to go to do that. It's been four week's now and I still have this dam Cold that will not go away. I even had my flu shot and it has not help. I have done just about everthing you could think, but sleep in the nest of skunk's. Would someone like to take it of my hand's. Well time is ticking and I need to get my sleepy pill's out to knock myself out fast. Some one said long ago, I shell return. And that's the way it was. Goodnight from all of us at, Alice's Rastaurent.
rainbow warrior, well thanks for the blast. sure java to go sounds good. just let us know when. but not saturday, i have plans. glad to meet again. you have a good weekend too. and the deer burger was excellent. cant wait to try the rest. thanks very much. so talk to you later. chantrelly.
I waz hoping to get out tommorow, up to the sacred Matsutake Patch. I did pick last week and did good with some big buttons and real nice quality open. However tonight the weather is really changing and looks like the snow will shut me out...maybe for the season. The big Scabers I cut frozen... along with yellow chantys and yellow-foot. They are fine. All in all a good season. I started Aug 8th fetching $15.00LB for Yellow Chants and Boletes for $10-$12LB The Matsi from $15.00-$7.00, however this is for good Matsi and I don't get into the #1,2,3,4,5 thing. The culinary knowledge of edible wild mushrooms is growing in Canada. I suggest that pickers approach good restaurants in your area and offer a clean product at 3-4 times what the buyer is offering you. This isn't always eassy when the greasy spoon closest to the Patch uses Ketchup as the gourmet sauce. // On another note, I have contacted Timber West about NOT LOGGING the sacred Patch and of course they haven't responded to my demand. They are a bunch of bloodsucker eco system destroyers. Arrogant, self centered and Lorimer is an ego-maniac. Luck picking the final days of Matsi, N

August; The ski resorts only got six inches or less and the only one open in Southern Idaho is Sun Valley where they make their own snow with ice machines, however they ought to get some fluffy stuff this weekend and rain is forcast for the Boise Valley. Your storm is traveling NE and our storm is coming up from the SW with perhaps some flakes this afternoon. ........ Marian; isn't the Ape Cave where the "Rabbit" hangs out ???
Good Morning! I got the coffee on! No need for Devils Club today! ;-)
Mairn,Send me your e-maillllllllllllllllllllllllll! to lostmorel@aol.com

August; your storm went around us again, a few flakes but nothing to measure here in the Banana Belt of Idaho. .... A bit of snow in the high country but not enough to open ski resorts in this area, next chance is forcasted as coming through next Monday...
Merkel man,You also should try Morel's ground down like salt, add it to butter in a pan ,place it on the stove on warm for 20 to 30 min's also add your garlic. when done then use it on your bread.
Well, I wolk up just to see the white powder all over everthing and now the weather man can't make up his mine about the rest of the weekend and into next. Some belive that there well be high wind's up to 90 mile's an hour on the coast and the freezing level would go way up and heave rain's at low elevation's and warming up and with the wind's could malt all the lower snow and add the rain to the mess could make thing's worse!!. We all have been lucky this year and not had the problem that most of the country has been faceing. We have been very lucky so fare this year, and winter has just started.................Carla, hold on to your hat and watch for them falling tree's and stay on the right side ofthe road!!............Coffee is up.....................good morning Marin. It's hard to tell if it's still snowing are just falling of the tree's but it's nice to look at!!............................A'
I live in Tacoma for the time being but am gonna go back to the Vancouver area to live. My kids live here in Tacoma, three girls, 22,19, and my baby is 17, when they were 10 years younger is the last time I was at the miners queen. I still roam Skamania County, have sinse I moved to North Bonneville when I was 16. My Gran Dad (Radar) was the town cop of old Bonneville (best by a damn site) and hippie haven! He was with out a doubt the coolest cop ever, anyway he's the one that pointed me towards Silver Star, he learned of it from his Dad. There are quite a few old, old mines in that area, but I don't know where their located. Fort Vancouver Libary has the answers you seek! There are some really old reference books on local mines there. Good Luck!!!
Largest white truffle of the last 50 years.... http://nz.news.yahoo.com/071128/9/2rmu.html
Well it looks like old man winter may dump on us tonight, time to curl up with a good book or get the fire maps out and plan a few morel dreams for spring...
Glad to see everyone is back to normal .. More or less... lol---------------------------------------------------- I have an odd question for you guys. Have any of you ever hunted morels in the Southern hemisphere? When did you find them and at what latitude? Just curious.. Manic Jon was very cool and sent me some of his Matsiman seasonings that he'd been hording. Awesome.. I think the favorite thing I tried so far was to just melt some butter and mix a few teaspoons of the garlic smoked matsi then put it on some french bread with a little parmasian cheese and make Matsi toast. The flavor really comes out.. good stuff Andy! All the flavors are great. I made some pizza and put the smoked seasoning on the sauce before putting the toppings on.. that was pretty darn good as well. Anyhow.. Hope everyone is well, and had a good thanksgiving! Merk /TH
Well oldman winter is knocking on the door as the snowman dump's he's white stuff on the mountain's and the valley floor's. Oldman winter is playing he's game, Filling the mountain's with he's white powder before the end of this year. As we all know he well play with are patient's tell the day of fool's into the new year.Watch the sky's for the sun's bright light and winter's clear but cold sky's at night. There well be five full moon's between now and the frist shroom's, and time to rest and gather are thought's of what we may do when spring come's through. So put on your coat and grab your snow shovel, make a small path to your pile of firewood. Now keep your self warm and safe till spring, are you may never make it to the never ending dream.
Can anyone tell me what the going price for dried morels is right now? Thanks
hi! what is the price these days on the west coast for what kind of shrooms.is the trumpett are out yet. thank in advance for the detail.
Sorry, I haven't been posting much lately but we are still just slammed in the buy station... I am tired! ;-) But I love it!
I live in front of my tub, Not much ele's to do but it's better then going outside in the cold and more snow dew in the afternoon. All I can do is make snow shroom's for sale as long as Alice dose not sale them to you........A'

There is one pick with,( I beleve your mother in it) I see the fin of a dolphin in the background. I know I've seen it before and it's not fare from where I belive you were picking.
Loon lobo,Just as I though, thing's change over the years with mineing law(or law's change so you can't mine your claim)!By the way what is dollar's worth of work apply to..........................Carls, coffee is hot, just help yourself to the pot............I though it was funny so take the kid's out to eat.lol.............A'
A, my pics were of another area. I have hunted the area your refering to and fish it alot. But have only found chanties and truffels there. Now that the snow fell it is time to start my steelhead fishing.
August; I was mixing my cement in 5 gallon buckets with a beater on my 1/2” Craftsman drill and I had quite a few 5 gallon buckets of sand and aggregate left over from cleaning the gold out that I would pour in the mix with the cement, when I ran out of buckets near me I went looking to see if I had some more and grabbed two buckets of gold concentrate that had not been separated yet. .... OUCH, hundreds of dollars of gold mixed into the cement..... .... Marin; For Federal Claims the max size of a Lode Claim is 20 acres and must follow the lead of mineral. For Placer Claims each one must be filed according to Legal Subdivision unless it is in a steep canyon where the walls cannot be negotiated or if the adjoining land is already under legal claim. {snowflake provision in the federal laws} a placer claim is max size of 20 acres per person or 8 times that for a group of 8 persons, thus a group can make placer claim of a ¼ section of land under legal subdivision.....If it is not filed by legal subdivision such as being the S ½ of the SW ¼ of the SW ¼ of section number ___ Township ___ Range ___ etc then the placer claim is not legally valid and is open for being “jumped” by someone else. .... Because there is so much disregard for the rights of claim owners by jumpers and hi-graders I no longer make a claim on a good piece of mineral land that I find out in the bush because then there is a paper trail that others may follow. .... The government wants $140.00 or so just for filing fees on each claim and then wants to tell you what you can do and then the environmental whiz-kids will do all that they can to prevent you from getting a permit to work the claim with anything more than a shovel, pan and maxim of 3 foot long sluice box. .... Then if you have 10 or fewer claims you may file a yearly small miners exemption with the BLM or you may pay $100.00 rental fee on the claim (I think that price went up though). Even then you must file annual assessment with the county government where the claim is which means you must do at least one hundred dollars worth of work on the claim annually or obtain one hundred dollars worth of mineral from it.

Sundanzkidd, Have you ever been up on top of silver star Mtn?. There is a old mine that a old timer I know spent year's blasting to find, then he found the opening to the mine. He told me year's back that it was one of the riches mine's around there tell this old time before him died and his family closed it with dynamite with hope's that no one would find it, then after twenty year's he found the opening and I still to this day have not herd from him are if he is still alive. I know he would never live it open to other's but someday I'll take the walk up the east side to see if it's still there. When I was panning for gold in the creek I could hear the dynamite going off up on top and see the dust rolling!. What I should do is stop in at his church in Amboy. He was a Seven Day Adventist, would like to know if he live's today.

Sundanzkidd, I may one day show you a map of Mt. St, Helen's dated back 1973 and some very old and lost trail's & road's along the 25 road!.
was canyon ck ridge shhhh
Shhh - was stag huntin a ridge august, youll spook alice
The other day Carla called home to tell her other half that she would be late getting home and ask him to take the kid's out for dinner. He said, no need...I'll just cok up some of the mushroom's that he just pick ( he never pick shroom's before) then she said No! Wait!! but by then he had hung up.!!!!!!!lol
Well I do belive now that the place I seen in your pic's there Germany17, That were I though you were picking. I've look at all that country for mine's and found gold in most of them creek's and other thing's!!!!.sundanzkidd, you two need to be more carefull about what you post with the background's, old timer's like me, know the spot's. When I saw to hill's in your background I knew right where they were. I've hunted the wildboy creek, texas creek,Hogen ck, jackson ck,and all the creek's that dump into Washougal river above tumber creek. The best place to hunt is Poison GI creek the run's into east fork. I do have to say there are so many place's that alot of people don't go to, so try not to show them background shot's.Just a though!!!!!
wow - iv never been to the minners queen copper mine from the east lewis side, always came in on the washougal side to visit, yah was up there last week, lost in the clouds and rain - did find a nice bears head tho
MARIN, I AM INTERESTED IN CHECKING OUT THE MINES. I WAS JUST UP THERE LAST WEEK. WHERE YOU LOCATED??
chantrelly...the snow is like the mushroom, here today gone tommorow! May not get too far from town so if ya get in send me a line. got ya ribs from last weeks two point ready! should b nice and tender. take care .talk soon.
hey, rainbow warrior that all sounds good. well the snow looks nice outside. well good hunting. talk to you friday. chantrelly.
I did some research about 25 years ago on the Silver Star area above Washougal, west of Dougan Falls and I found the Miners Queen. I beleave it to be one of the richest copper area's I've ever seen! The mine's hole's go strait down and are filled with water, but the surrounding ground is green an blueish green. It's a really special place and worth the hike into it! If anyone is interested. The best way to it is up through Sunset Falls!
any way you look at it I still well spell the any way i spell it
P.S. I do belive that most of copper creek now has been claim by a miner's gold club out of Portland. I was last there this summer with my son and Dennis. We did some panning but come up with nothing...............A'
Uncle, uncle, uncle, you win I quit, you can spell anyway ya want A!
Maine, It's twenty acre's for both unless they change the law without notice.Yes I do belive your right about hundred doller's of work, but you still need to pay to file your report, ones again the law could have change!. But you must pay fore a permite to mine shroom gold lol.
Marin, I could of told you but, I have know this as my golden creek for some year's. There are a lot of copper creek's around here and there, but the one I like the best is copper city on copper creek. But copper city is no-longer there, but there is a cave right on the creek down from the bridge from the road that gose to larch.Sunset fall's also has some nugget gold as well as the east fork of the lewis river but the best of them is copper creek and between summit creek and miner's creek that dump into copper creek. I have taken alot of gold from there in the past and it is nugget's not flake gold like you could find down below moulton fall's, I even find white shroom gold there in the parking lot. Anuff said on this you seam to know all this A',(Your turn to the lift).
A claim for a placer is twenty acres and a claim for hard rock is five, is this correct? Also the fee to file is a hundred which is annual or a hundred dollars of work per claim?
On bad years the 9039 produces white gold when very few other places do, but I'm sure you must know that A. Silver Star Mt has its claims to fame also( Miners Queen) ect. but thats over near Larch!
Hi Guess. Now, I know who this is LOL, I miss you!
Good Morning! Thanx for the coffee August!!!!
I have hot coffee if anyone won'ts to stop by for a cup!.It snow last night but just anuff to cover the ground. It moved over us fast and headed east on it's way to New York city. All I can say is injoy it Duncan!.
You now have a gold -in- porch, smart move there Loon lobo.
August; gold peaked today at $432.30 so it is going back up again... Sundanzkidd; I have a few piles of rocks also and then what do I do with them, possibly what I did once with two buckets of dredge concentrates when I ran out of sand while making concrete for the porch addition .... mixed them into the cement before I remembered that they had gold in them, 00psie
It's snowing here as well. We could get as much as 2" overnight and the hill's west of here could 14" to16"as well. A good start for winter and it well make the skier's hopeing for more so they can play.
Copper creek has it's gold and some Platinum but the rock of minerals that I know of is up in clear creek off the 93 road. You go past clear creek ,stay on the 93 and take the frist road to the left about 2 mile's past the creek and not the 9390. It take's you in about three mile's. You should see my claim 4x4 post on the right side up on top of the out-crop of rock's. It's in a re-pod about 15 to 18 year's old. Good luck!
chantrelly... deer ribs it is, would you like some dry pines, morels or chanties 2 go with them. talk soon. 3 inches of fresh white falling and no end in site. merry christmas!
August - copper ck mine is closed, bridge blocked, all claims hike in only & no camping, out by dark or a ticket now, st hellens held back the real gems, but the blast produced a rare form of gold in some of its new rock - only seen after slabing and polishing cabs...green mtn the extinct volcano is full of broken thunder eggs and large crystals, the 90 rd has some agate and jasper and burnt wood, but not top notch material just plain jane stuff - lacks the special moss or dentrite features i hunt, most of the jasp is soft and lacks luster, wasnt baked enuff -came out of the oven too soon and didnt get glassy, but i do find a rare chunk here n there up that way i call a keeper
Sorry to hear that (marin your turn)but you need to find some(your turn marim)because there mite be a bet of(your turn marin).I even pan for( is it your Turn,Marin?) any-way I've got to get some in a pan(your turn,Marin)so I'll see you there,marin...........August out.
I could not resist poking fun at you any longer August, thats what happens with cabin fever now we're in the internet age. Oh, how the time's are a changing. Any one miss Bob Dylan? I to know of a place some what near St. Helen's but closer to you A, and almost directly north. a little place by name of copper can creek (not crick) sort of east of Riffe Lake. LOTS of Chalsoldonie (your turn A) anyway Jasper to be found there amongest other (how did Golum put it) Prescous, your turn again A, lol, minerals! Hunt happy on the Copper Can for some really pretty stuff! Some Caves have pretty stuff too, but I could never tell you where!
Sundanzkidd, I have a place where I find a jasper like rock that has gold, siver, platinum, copper, nickle and other tip's of mineral's. I found it when I was working with the Forest service back in the late 80's. I did file a claim on it but they would not let me use dynamite because is was just to close to the road, but I still know where it is and some day I'll return to work it......Loon lobo this is something you would like to see!!. Hydrothermal vent(I hope I spell it right) It's where hot water come's up from underground and and bring's minersl's and deposit's them in the crack's in the rock then cool's re-malt's again and cool's and heat's up and cool's leaving's minersl's. This place is near Mt St Helen's.I've had the ore tested so I know what is in the glass like rock................A'
to morelmaniac: if you have satellite sevice you will be looking at eastern time slots ie if its on at 8pm western time on your local cable provider, it will be on at 5pm with dishnetwork or directv (assuming youre on pacific time)....now if youre canadian i cant help you...

some of my treasures - all top grade semi gem material, woods agates jaspers, this is 1 of 4 stashes i have, almost 2000 lbs just in this pic, most of it aint worth squot, at best ill get anywhere from a 1/4 a lb to 2 bucks, i want 5, if i cut the stuff, polish and facet, i could maybe get 10 bucks a setting at a road side stand or street fair - its treasure all right but its value is minascule compaired to the time and cost Iv invested to bring it home... http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/sundanzkidd/agatebed1.jpg
CHANTRELLY... BACK HOME LAST NIGHT. MAY LEAVE WED. EARLY FOR A COUPLE DAY DEER HUNT. NEED VENISON TO GO WITH MORELS ...MMMMM. TTYL
CASH AND TREASURES season 2 on the discovery channel every tuesday @ 9pm starting dec 4th, shows all the locations to hunting so called treasures - it will not explaine the 6 hr drives or the mass of folks nor explaine the small dollar value the picker gets compared to the brokers top dollar value. most all the gemstones have very little value at best compaired to the real deal stuff - you can buffalo some but not everyone - your 20 dollar diamond investment will cost you 4 grand to facit it after 40 hrs of grinding and polishing, the shows will be miss leading.................
i will dream, boletus joe. might be meeting before friday, rainbow warrior. bcuz bf needs cigs. i will try 2 text u. so talk to you later. chantrelly.

Hi Everyone. The chants made it through the freeze so far anyway!!!!
i took my daughter pickin in a pouch ,bottle in her mouth ....wonder what she thought.as she grew up she wanted to go out pickin...she loved it but 1 bad expirience ruined it fir her(bee sting) but she still keeps her eyes open for the mushroom forage.....skip mom.....she has the fever!!!!!!! ialmao
Yes, and even went to Alice's Restaurant to sing A bar are to!!
Hey August Any way, should be anyway! You've been to Alice's sitting with the catapillar on a shroom an hooka! Did you ever get to view the Canadian Thanksgiving site?
Randy,It is nice to see your still around !!..... It is easy to teach kid's to learn new thing's if you take the time to make it fun for them at what you are doing. What I do is teach them to try to out pick me! or who well find the frist one and who well make the most at the end of the day. I also teach them the name's and ask them to name ever one we find and to spell each one, and when we watch T.V. and see something about the wood's I ask them what tip of tree's do you see and what tip of mushroom's would find with those's tree. It has work out well and when I cook up what we find they seam to eat them long before dinner and almost never live me any.!!. They are what we teach them to be and are dream's of hope for a better way of life that has eluded man kind for higher tecknology. We need to teach them a more slower way of life before man run's out of time on this world we live on. We all know that the fast truck of life is going no were and it taking us down with it. If are economy should drop flat like so many other empire's from the past, then are kid's should know how to survive in this world of today that may not be here tomorrow. There is so much dum-an glum with the world turning warmer and so much hate in other country's for those whom buy there oil. We should learn from the past but we don't. But maybe we can if we teach them what has gone wrong in this world today. It's not easy to teach the older one's in there teen's but in time they well come around just like us,we also have taken some fall's in are past.So don't ever give up on them.........Flower power live's on:).....A'
Marin, It don't take much to Impress you any way.
Chris I visted your site and am impressed with what you and David have done, good job!
After reading all these posts I realise that all of us mushroom pickers are definately kindred spirits.T
I look at the world like an onion..... and it is getting peeled. The out side consists of the AIR layer, and we are filling it full of smoke etc. the WATER layer, same thing, giant sewer. The EARTH layer, over farmed and striped. Like an Onion when you get to the meat it is very strong.....we are very close to the meat people. The time to reinvest in the skin is way past overdue. To many people on the onion skin. ............Of course I think I am preaching to the converted.... But what the hell.
The times they-are-a-changing, has anyone heard of the international plan to put control of the oceans including whaling, salmon fishing etc into the hands of an international committee??? then who is going to protect from over fishing if countries who wish to do so out-vote others and take away territorial rights from our shores and prevent locals from earning their income in ways currently happening, hummmmm .... As for getting my kids out to hunt mushies it was only once when teenagers and then it was nose-in-the-air attitude the same as their mother. .... Iffin I ever get married again the girl has gotta luv huntin the wild gourmet mushrooms...
I wish it were true kingmorel.... i guess we would only know if we lived for 3 or 4 hundred years to see these logged off hills become old growth again. but that wont happen because the logging companies will never let that happen. Its a sad sad world driven by the all mighty dollar.
A...... very nice post........ fitting for thanksgiving. rainbow warrior.......... the spotted owl and marmots are not safe anymore, nor are lakes and streams, or even riparian zones..... logging companies here in BC now decide where and what they want to harvest and make their own rules. During a recent conversation with a timber cruiser from Island Timberlands, he told me the belief is that all matsutake beds will survive clear cutting and that research shows they will "ALL come back" I told him that was BS as no such research has been done. If anyone knows of such research plz point me to it........ sundanzkidd ............. Funny thing about kids, what you teach them when they are young will be part of what they are as adults. Mine went thru all the stages you describe but in the end came almost full circle and are now some of the best pickers I know (when they decide to pick as they all have their own business's and are busy with life) They all once again eat shrooms (except one) they all have a vast knowledge of the forest and survival. I'm proud to say they are at home in either city or wilderness. Teach them when they are young because they soon get to the "know it all stage" where only their girl friends parents know anything.... lol..... and then they dont hear a word you say... such is life....... peace to all....... Randy
kinda funny about teachin the kids to hunt mushys -- i did that and my kid loved it for about 10 min - was too much work and no pay - smart kid, they even ate them for a short time but now turn their nose up to them
well said ...A... I almost feel sorry 4 those out there who have never got 2 taste what our beautiful forests have 2 offer, many r 2 lazy or just ignorant 2 get out and see the sites many a shroomer has enjoyed. In B.C. our gov. will stop logging 4 a spotted owl, a marrmot, but doesnt bat an eye to clear off mushroom hill after hill!! sure they plant more trees but will not b able to harvest 4 sixty to eighty years. If left alone we would get alife time of picking year after year! hopefully there will still b some spots left in the future so I can teach my boys what mother nature has 2 offer. good night all.
There was a time in all are life's the we as people were born into a life of dream's and we rome the land to find are way in and out of the wood's. The dream was to find are Treasure's that lay's under the soil's of the forest floor. We look high and low we look along the steep hill's and the low valley's blow. We dream of spring and all that it bring's for the month's ahead and the warm summer that warm are heart's for we know that fall is just ahead and that tha rain's that well fallow well cool the soil of the forest floow's so that we may find the end of the rainbow's Treasure's we long for all winter long. As we come to the end of the year and we look back and think about all that we found we give thanks to the forestland's, and we eat like Royalty from all that we put away for other's must pay the higher price's for what we know and Injoy and lock away deep in are mine's. Remember this, We may not recive the right price in currency that we fill we should recive but the Treasure's is what we know and find because there are so many people that have never been where we as hunter's have gone and well go. for those that live in the city's never seen are eaten the joy's of what the forest give's to use to injoy. We can keep this to are self's but many of use that have been around know that all is not well and are forestland's need help, for there are those that care less about what the tree's and plant's have going with the fungi that grow deep in are rich forestland's. We all have alot to give thanks for and I hope we learn to take care before it is to late to trun back the clock. So as poeple we must give thank's to those that took the time to teach us what they know and to give back what we take so that other's can and I hope well injoy over the year's too come...............A'
Just to let everyone know, you can watch the pre-premier of the season of "Best Places To Find Cash and Treasures" on the Travel Channel December 2nd at 11:00 PM Eastern. The Morel Mushroom episode is the very first one to air that night. It will be repeated quite often later in December and next year. You can view an online movie of me filming the filming crew on my website. I am a bit nervous about my big ugly face being on the bigscreen, but hopefully it will come out in a positive manner..... Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. http://www.morelmushroomhunting.com

chantrelly.......r u still out there? waiting 4 a response.
Thanks Tom at wild gourmet; I have a few pounds of my premium dried greys left but need to offer them to a couple of customers first and then if any are left I will contact you. .... I found this one statement at that site to be very appropriate, "It should be noted that the 1578 ceremony was not the first Thanksgiving as defined by First Nations tradition. Long before the time of Martin Frobisher, it was traditional in many First Nations cultures to offer an official giving of thanks during autumnal gatherings. In Haudenosaunee culture, Thanksgiving is a prayer recited to honor "The Three Sisters" (i.e., beans, corn, and squash) during the fall harvest."
Hi Tom @ Wildgourmet. My boss has all the Dried MOrels you could possibly want, feel free to call him at 707-822-1700 and ask for Trent. ;-)

treeguy 15 (f)degree's here and freezing frog's. Ziquinn, I hope your keeping warm?.Look's like snow this coming week. We can use it up high for are spring forage and summer run for the campout?????.
here's another link about thanksgiving... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving
-5{C} in the lower mainland this morning, gonna hafta put slippers on the yellowfeet !
qpines ; Thank you for that link it is quite informative ... I was taught as a child in school that it was thanks given by the first English settlers known as Pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock for the first harvest and at that time there was no 49th line division, perhaps they already knew of the thanks being given each year by former English settlers in what is now Canada and were just carrying on tradition. .... the site mentions that Canada used to hold it in November but the government changed the date.
August; Perhaps I ought to make some morel spice next year, Matsiman Andy offered to do so last summer but I did not get enough extra morels for the making of it. .... I don't place the morels on top of my bird or salmon because they dry out too much, I put the morels down in the cream & white grape juice where the vegetable and meat juices will mix which gives the morels and the meat a very unique flavor quality. .... I use the matsiman spice to flavor the meat and then place celery, whole green onions, parsley etc on top of the meat so that they are the ones to dry out as they drip their flavor down into what ever I am baking. .... Today I baked at a higher temperature than usual because I was running late and thus some of the turkey legs got a bit over cooked. .... this process works great with salmon leaving it very moist and succulent...
I didn't have any problems with it, it's good trivea though so try again, it's worth it!
Marin, did they kick you off the Thanksgiving in Canada site ? ever time I got on it kick's me off !?.
qpines, thanks for the link! Thats good stuff!
Happy thanksgiving everyone, full buckets to everyone. manicjon: This site may help with question you asked. http://www.kidzworld.com/article/2614-canadian-thanksgiving Take care all
happy thanksgiving to all of u pickers south of the 49th! Have a safe holiday .
I think I would of vote for the garlic smoked morel salt, over the garlic smoked matsi.
... thanks, Bill in Blaine, I just added three photos of some of the final product once it was placed on platters and will add the other photos of the duck tomorrow... 0h, the morels came out like fresh picked ... YUM ... I believe that the garlic smoked matsiman spice helped the overall taste.
I had a wierd thought as the turkey (sure was good) setteled me back on the couch after the game. Go ROMO, anyway here's the thing that unsetteled me. If our founding Fathers had voted the Turkey our National Bird, would we be eating Eagle? Ya'll do know it was a vote between the two, right? Lucky for us the Eagle won the vote! I would not care to fly with turkey's or eat an Eagle! I noddin back out, that damn turkey!(but sure was good)!
Alice,alice who. Alice Copper?
Sundanzkidd, thank's you just give me an !. We could heve a contest and see whom could find the most shoom's and variety for that time of the year, and the winner could be called the king of the collecter's.
happy turkey day folks - hey A' - camp out, u mean like RVs and tents, youd out pick everyone and alice wouldnt be able to find anything

After the holiday's are over (real soon I hope and not the town) why don't we all thank about a mushroom hunter's get together in the spring and campout for a weekend. This way we can all get to know each other, other then online. If not spring then maybe this summer!!!!. Just somthing to thank about as you set around the boob toob after you have down all that turkey and pumpkin pie and I best not foreget Football, football&more football. Happy Thanksgiving to you all......August
Sorry there Carla, but know you can look forword to the Horn of Plenty !
Hi Lone Lobo, the coast didn't freeze but the mountains did and many of my chanties come from up high...
August; come on over cuz I will have left-overs ... my lady friend has several grandchildren that will be there so I am cooking chicken and turkey legs around the duck, that way the little children can each have a leg more their size and the big kids like you can have the bigger legs. .... When it is all baked together in a baking bag the flavors mix and it is definately ... TWO YUMS UP
Carla; that is a shame, I remember ice all the way down to the coast before but isn't this a bit early???
Good Morning. I am afraid to see what might have happened to our chants now that it froze last night... A', thanks for the coffee!
p.s. Lobo, the Best year's are just beginning now that we are wise!
Elder,? I'll be over for dinner as soon as I find that # for dial-a- rabbit ride. Age is only what you won't to feel and beleive you are and just number's.
August; 00psie, you are so right. .... why just a couple of days ago I was thinking I had a good fifty years left in me. .... Also as I recall you are at least a few days elder than me and we all should listen to our elders for good advise, he he he. .... hummmm, wasn't it just a month or so back when I suggested that between us we might equal one young buck and that you said that you could out-pick the youngsters so you ought to equal two young bucks, lol. .... s0, I must bow now to your older wisdom and get busy with my Thanksgiving preparations, I have a couple hundred morels to psycho-analyze before soaking them for cooking with my turkey, duck & chicken combination dish I am making this year in a large baking bag. .... I will post my cooking processes when done, to view some of my past morel cooking visit: http://morelcooking.blog.com/ scroll down to the bottom for using a baking bag for salmon.
Carla, good morning coffee is hot but not so muddy.
Lone lobo, what is this old stuff. I'm not old, but you can say that I'm getting older(but old) no way. I still have a lot of good year's left
Just reading about Morel temperarures. Personal research shows that even though the starting of Morels can happen after the ground reaches 55-58 degrees does not mean they will. Manicjon has it right in that looking for indicator plants and other pre-morel mushrooms like the small brown teacups will tell you more. Dandelions are usually indicative of Morel being 1-2 weeks away depending on latitude and longitude. Have a restful winter.
0k A, I'll say good night. .... As for morel soil temps, I quit reading the thermometer so much and began watching the indicator plants more. .... It is about my bedtime also, old disabled vets like you and me need our beauty sleep. .... 00ps, I forgot that you can still pick twice as much as a young buck... lol
chantrelly, being born and raised in hope I may b able to point u in the right direction. ur right its steep but the rewards can b well worth it! picked my last pine for the year yesterday and it was very tastey with our elk steaks! ttyl
I hope(not the town of hope) to read about this in the morning. Know it's time for me to say good night all, time for this one to go before the sandman stop's in with his sleepy sand and I don't won's to miss out on some. say goodnight john boy.
Morel docter, this one is for you and anyone that cares to put there two cant's in the pot. Matsitake need's temp's to drop after a long heat wave, right. well then what is the temp's for morel's then, day and night. Now we have somthing ele's to think about.!? as well as candy cap's.
well i tried several taste tests, even got the wife to taste a few .Im thinking its not really in the taste.gonna hafta dry one out n see if they smell any better, these ones round here fit the desc. totally
Hey Boletus Joe, those Candy Caps should feel rough on top like a cats tounge, like Carla says. They tend to have slight off center dimples and hollow stems too. The whole mushroom is the same brown color.
kewl, workin on fuel system again, hard starting.takes 2 or 3 tries, runs great otherwise{!#@!*!}met salvo today, had to get em off the porchso he got a batch out of me,paid .50 more than he first said.we paid fer the gas n wandered round a campsite in the sun !
I'm also lookin for candy caps.... did a bit of searching on the web. milk should have a clear skim milk appearence and the stem not always hollow but snaps like a chalk ( method of picking and identifying candy caps) something to hunt for .... drying yellowfeets makes em turn black !! but they sure smell good !! will have to try in a meal :) full buckets to evrybody ! Sam in BBY.
Carla; I am here and there but no mushrooms here, so I wish I was there.
hey len be carefull down there vancouver police just received 70 new tazers and only one manuel on how to use them
hey treeguy i feel left out im still here in good old pr. the funny thing is this place always sucks you back.ps figured out my truck problem.full buckets to all cheers dave
well we got $3.50 lb for our yellowfeet , I saw a mesquito north of terrace that was about 3 inches across, made a shadow on the tent roof, probably coulda sucked blood through the ceiling..!
Bolete's Joe those are animal cap's, I hope they don't get up and walk away lol. Let us know when there dry and if they small like maple syrup!!. I'll get back here later, for now I've got to run.
Your right it dose get hot around here but then winter's are cold but not like they were 15to20 years back when i was running around with my long hair passing out flowers to all the beautiful people and singing power to the people and we shell over come, should I go on!!. No, I'll stop here because it was long before your time and they were the good old day's and they bring back tear's of those that we lost for one reason or another.
Again about the Candy cap. I have collected a bunch of samples, all of which have a very faint sweet smell to them. They are set to drying just at room temp. The thing I am trying to figure out is some of these mushrooms are varied colours of brown, and the gills seem to vary from an almost white to a light purple hue,and right to a brown. From the top they are a rough dusty looking texture, and some of them have a dimple in the middle of the cap. All the stems are hollow. The one thing they all seem to have in common is the odor, not a strong odor as yet. Oh one other thing..after only finding them in small groups of 3 or 4 at a time, today I came on about 200 all in one place, they were growing where someone had disposed of an animal hide. Comments Please.........
well....A. i was in yakima with someone i knew who wanted to visit relatives there. i was only there for a couple of weeks. then i was missing my family so i came home. and the mosquitoes seemed bigger to me than the ones im used to here. but i dont recall them biting me. it was sure hot there in yakima in the summer. the relatives we visited owned a grape farm. well talk to you later....A. chantrelly.

Looking for buyers in the Northwest... Chantrelle Matsutakes #1s!!! Competitive Prices Fresh Picked Daily!
I LOVE to fish, but when the fishing is slow. I'll go shrooming instead. Last week I was in Squamish and found 10#s of Honey's. Wow those where good. And the fishing did get better after a bad start this year. But the Chum run is way down this year. Considering that the bears are not always eating all of the Salmon, do you think that the mushrooms are helped in any way by the nutrients of the carcass?
duncan I see you got my e-mail...A' Got to run, have thanksgiving lunch with my son at his school later there gater.........A'
Glad to see the site back up and running. Cold and snowy here this past week. Found a bunch of old chickens yesterday. man I wish I had checked this tree out sooner. First time for this tree, as I have looked at them in the past. Or maybe it was a late grower I had never gone to check out before. Duncan
That's right A', they sold me every last one of those snow shrooms and now the price went up on them and there are no more... Poor, Poor Alice!!
Good Morning everyone. Well the rain did one good thing for us, it melted all of the stuff that was borderline and now all we have left is the prime but if it freezes... Bye-Bye chants... Lone lobo, I missed you!
That is really true there shoegy about trying to pick when there feasting on you.lol
do not mind horses, hate misquitoes ,can do without blood loss ....makes it hard topick..lol
August; we finally got a few minutes of white Jolly Green Giant dandruff or perhaps it was really sno-flakes this morning. ........ chantrelly; There are a few places where the mosquitoes have seemed to be particularly horrendous to me. Fort Nelson area and a bit to the north, anywhere north of BC and Arctic Circle, SW corner of Yellowstone National Park near Horseshoe Lake and of course Alaska where it is considered by many to be the State Bird. .... The miners who were traveling north overland to the Yukon back during the gold rush had to cover their horses at night and build smudge-fires to prevent death from blood loss. It is well documented that many a horse was dead by morning due to the mosquitoes that gathered for the feast.
Zumiez, If you read on you well see what I've said about them. pick one or two and touch them some place to dry out and if you get a sweet maple small them you have the right one's. But you should read more on there key features in Divid Arora's book's!!!.
Chantrelly. You said you've been here in yakima before, what was your reason and did you leave because of all are so called huge mosquitoes? I know we have them here but there not that big. Treeguy was telling me about the one's up there, that ask each other if they should eat you there are take you home for dinner and I've seen them over sea's stop in to refuel before going home,lol..................................Lone lobo, don't worry there well be alot more snow to come and the river's well be running high by june............A'
hey can anyone tell me if candy cap grows in south island? I see something like it but just not sure.. around Shawnigan...Lactarius rubidus cheers, Brent
well people, ive decided to go fer a joke run.gonna meet salvo fer something to do,the guys set up shop bout 10 miles from here, goin to ponderosa to sell a few yellowfeet before they freeze on the porch, offered $3lb 2 weeks ago,see what he says now>?.il post the result later on today.phoned one restraunt n was told they pay 6 but want em cheaper.good thing we didnt waste much effort pickin these...lol
well August the snow line today stayed about 2,500' above the Boise Valley, most of your storm stayed to the north of here and dropped snow in the upper areas. .... So far it is not looking good for morels next summer and if we do not get enough moisture it will be another drought year. .... But even though that makes the morel season dry out early and the water low in the rivers it does make it easier to get wrest the gold from the grasp of the rock. ......... chantrelly; It sounds like you have been chasing mushrooms in many areas, I did some mushroom research several years ago in BC and have driven the Stewart-Cassiar as well as the ALCAN 25 years ago. .... Sorry about all the rain, Carla..didn't mean to send you that much. It is so wet and rainy around here, we have no desire to go out looking for anything. Just too plain yucky out there.
more matsi, chanys hears heads for9 dinner tonight u8myelk the other red meat or is that orange meat of the steelhead........
Did you try drying some of them aliens before they jump ship?. your not going to taste the sweet aliens blood as most people think, but you well small there sweet body odor before they use there undercap deodorante.lol
well A ,guess theres just no aliens in our neck of the woods after all. that was never eat any little "brown"mushrooms right ?.everything dont taste like candy ,lmao.tried out quite a few red shrooms today,we found the milk part no prob but there were no sweet shrooms out there, everything smelled like shroom !,no bad aftertaste but no good one either.i guess il get the wife to call off the R.C.M.P.no migrants to watch over tonight
Sorry Carla, All That the Rain Promises, and More......A"
Good Morning everyone. It has been pouring here for 2 straight days... The poor chanties are all soggy and yucky!
Sorry there treeguy, I'll just take them to the next boarder and reless them to Carla to be placed on the work order, then maybe someone could use them as undocumented labor in a restaurant near you coming soon on your dinner least with wine! lol
WHAT!!!! , let em drive..?.you watch the news dontcha ? do you think we need anymore drivers up here that "think" they know what theyre doing ! our insurance rates are high enuff without adding to the mess up here, they can just keep using the ones that came out of the crackerjack box.if they can drive a moose they can drive a suv, hummer, dumptruck ect...
Good morning to you all. It look's wet outside so I'll stay in where it is dry..... Treeguy we don't have the time to find them a home so would you keep them north of the boarder tell they pass a law on giving them a license's to drive themself's back to the wood's where they belong. lol
Mushroom Mary is fishing for rabbit fish and Woofer is going hunting for rabbit elk and they leave us to play in Andy's back yard with candy cap's and corn cap's anyone know a new game to play.lol
Looks like everyone is still playing nice. It is good to see this happen again, I will be gone for about 10-12 days hunting up in Montana and will have limited access, but will check in when I can, have fun everyone and pick a bunch
lol
No way A ! ifin i do that then the taxpayers will feed n clothe em,probably even give em a place n an income till they can be "sent" back to their natural habitat..?.I cant even manage that ...!..lmgdfao
Treeguy, I was only going on what I'v seen and been told by someone that has been studying them for some time now but there could be other place's that she and I have never been to before. So if you have them growing up north then it's something for use to look into.I would call RCMP and report them as being undocumented mushrooms running around north of the boarder.
A,? not to be to "Canadian" but ,Do you check em fer there papers before theyre allowed to grow any farther north,..lmao.sorry couldnt resist dude,we share pretty much the same climate .its just that ours is a bit earleir/later than yours.otherwise none of our mushrooms would be the same,no pedigrees on fungus eh..!
we have been seeing them everywhere in a 2nd growth park cut with trails and a campground, more numerous than chantrelle.theres a huge bowl out the backside that was logged yrs ago, skidroads n cordiroy rds are all that remains.patches of 20 or more
There are not alot of candy cap's that grow north of salem Oregon and the best are those that grow south of there and in California. I do find some here but in westen washington only.
we seem to be about 3 to 6 weeks ahead of you guys.A friend and I traveled the circut from geos n slash morels in vanderhoof to joseph in eastern oregon for fire morels and then back up to terrace for the pines for a couple of years. got see the seasons right up close and personal.hope to take the wife n at least 1 kid along someday, creates character{s}.bushcraft n knowing is a helpful thing nowadays. If these are candycaps growing up here we otta have a blast !, got a dayjob gettin in the way lately, probably get out this weekend with the wife n kids, full buckets to all
You could have 20 cats and 4 gallons of bad milk on the counter and if you have 2 lb of dried candy caps in a bowl it would still smell like a little bit of heaven......
Thanks everyone for all the Candy Cap info.... I do have David Arora's book........ It is ,I think, just a matter of finding the real thing. I suspect that there are not a great deal of these shrooms in my immediate area. I do have a variate of brown mushrooms set out to dry. But going by what I have read here, I don't think they are the right ones.... Thanks again
puzzledmattie; I am SOOOO envious, hope you folks have a wonderful trip. Did you look at my slide shows yet, most of the morels are the ones I submitted to Chris Matherly's photo contest last time so you have already seen them previously, four of those pics were in his finals for judging. I hope to do a slide show on matsutake as soon as I find the right box that they are hiding in and get them copied to disc. I also may make a show of other varieties of mushroom that I sent in to that contest because they are already in my computer. ........ treeguy; w0w that is indeed a great find of candy caps, if I am able to get someone to sit in for a month or so to care for my uncle I might go hunting down the coast for winter mushrooms. Another sweet tasting mushroom I usually get in Southwestern Oregon is Flat- topped Club Coral and prepare it as a sweet tasting desert dish at Thanksgiving, it may grow up where you are also.
I would hope that most of you have a copy of David Arora's book's. If you don't have one buy them so you can really understand what your looking for. I read his book like a bible and he has some of the best pitcher's on mushroom's and know's what he is telling you to look for. And for those of you who are new to this world, it's best to pick some to take to some one that know's what he or she is talking about or buying.Candy cap's are never sticky, slimy or shiny and the surface is dull and dry. Taste not peppery, (chew on a small piece of the cap). I remember A time I had dry around fifty lb that I placed in storage and someone cut the lock and ran off with all of them and never took anything ele's. must of though they could get hight on them lol. I still have some here at home from fifteen years ago and still small good...........A'
Hi Boletus Joe. The candy cap is a very hard mushroom to figure out at first... I can say that the top of real candies will feel rough like a cats tongue even when wet. The others will be smooth. At one time I messed up half of Coos County by buying the wrong ones and turning away the real ones... It is still biting me in the rear even now... ;-)
Good Morning treeguy. Right now Candies are 6.
Treeguy, be sure of your i.d. In all my wanderings in the forests of BC, I have yet to confidently key out Candy Caps (Lactarius rubidus or L. fragilis). There are many other small reddish Lactarius species that exude a white latex. One in particular (L. rufus?) I find quite often and burns your tongue like cayenne if you take a little nibble. It's generally alright to nibble a small piece of any Lactarius. You might be surprised at how hot they can be! Pay close attention to the latex, candy caps are supposed to produce a watery clear milk wh
