This message board was the first thing I look at in the morning with my first cup of coffee,on this board I found good info over the years, but yes lately there as been useles sh** and childish argument. sorry to see the board shut down is was a good way to keep in touch with the mushroom world .
Gerry's Mushroom Depot in Courtenay is paying $18.00/lb for #1 Pines and $2.50 for restaurant quality Chanterelles. Lobster, Hedgehog, sweet tooth - $1.75
Matsiman, thanks for all you have done for all of us who have this passion for wild mushrooms and everything that goes with it. This board has been a valuable tool for many of us and I'm sure I'm not the only one who will genuinely hate to see it go. Many of us are willing to make donations to see this board continue in some way even if it is a registered board. In fact, I think it could be a good thing to have a registered board. So, if you think donations from us would help, why not put up a link with info where we can make donations to help you get it up and running. Best wishes to you and all else concerned who made this board happen....> Mary
Many of us have my space accounts and can keep in touch that way also... My myspace name is Last Chance feel free to add me...;-)

Well I guess if this board goes down then many of us will lose touch with each other........ so..... I would like to say goodbye and wish everyone the best of luck in the future. I would like to think I would see some of you in the patch but as I dont plan on being here that seems unlikely. Peace to all Randy Marchand ....Kingmorel
Thanx everyone for the birthday wishes!!!!
Hi Matsiman. Keep looking in my area, there are lots of campgrounds... And the people are pretty nice arpund here.
if people need a place to post stuff, they can use my message board for that, There isnt a lot of traffic, but feel free to post stuff there if you want http://www.dotcomjunkies.com/members/woofer/forum/
Took a last stab at the west side yesterday, there was up to 6" of snow on the ground , but it melted off fairly fast, not a whole lot of pines out there, we found about a doze, half were flags, half were nice 1-3's got about 40 pounds of chanterelles. most were oay but a bit soggy. lots of spots were there were slimed out matsi and chanterelles. its pretty much over at this altitude, so its time to head towards the coast
Matsiman, thats to bad man, shame to see it happen. Shawn saw you driving the other day , but said you didnt see him
Preview of comming atractions: http://matsiman.com/messages/buyerpickermessagesRS.htm
Randy, nope, meant strip mining, like they used to do with high pressure water and just knock/wash everything down till they found what they were looking for, not much difference though. In logging they just knock it down to get at what they can already see. Of course there are different types of raking no doubt, removing a little leaf litter doesn't compare to raking large area's of moss and leaving the ground bare with the exception of a bunch of piles of moss spread around. That's why some things are taken out of context on the board, just the thought of it up here pisses me off, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be helpful somewhere else. Even if it was good for the shrooms I would never condone it up here because of the damage to the moss/everything else that depends on it.
well its back to the dayjob this morning, the wife n i wish those of you goin swimming...er picking today full buckets to all.here a few pics of the year so far http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=15646&l=46362&id=824993997
hey "toothless Guy" heading through your neck of the woods tomorrow........are you around?
I've got trails in 'the patch' that are so dawg-slawged that they are a good ten or so inches lower than the surrounding ground. I hammer in and button-wobble out at least 30-40 times a season (for the last 15 yrs in one particular area) and every year more and more mushrooms appear right on the trail itself, (spore spreading at it's best I suppose). And as Randy says, some of these mushrooms don't seem to care how many times I step on them, they just keep growing. I also concur, that conversely, with some buttons, if you don't treat them with kid gloves they never grow another millimeter. Randy, I agree with you that the patches should remain pristine and the beds a mystery, but in our bread and butter patches that we are more or less married to, I'm not sure what we can do about the trails...CD
Hey King Morel, how are you doing. Its Steve from Pritchard B C. Randy drop me an E-Mail at cam.pio@hotmail.com. Talk at you later.

Hi Matsiman. this would be a great place to land! The beach is close by and so am I... LOL
Changed the link below to this one formalpubs/Effects of mushroom harvest.pdf

I also got page not found.I'll try your link Randy

There is some rakeing by man but they take what they rake and Elk, Bear, and deer rake also byt as they eat the shroom they live alot of peice's over the place there not deep rake'er like people do. They have been doing thisfor many, many Year's so you can't blam it on them
Andy ... Im getting a "page not found" mesg when I hit the link you posted below. Anyone else have this problem?
Kingmorel...it seems as though alot of picker are losing thier patches on the island...so sad.I have lost portions of my patch in Kitwanga and your right it is like losing an old friend.:(
Thank you for the link matsiman.
cellar.... morning... do you mean strip logging? strip every single tree from the face of the earth? I agree it looks like hell.
Hay anything happning in Oregon? I'm in sisters and can travle to pic. Get a hold of me Thcleslie@hotmail.com
Garf... Most high elevation patches here are covered in snow now... only the low eles patches here have mushrooms..... and not a great flush .... (wish I had a boat ;) ..... ) Bears are some of the worst rakers going. I have seen where a bear has raked the moss, dirt, and mushrooms into a big pile for dozens of sq yards and then sat down and ate the most of the pile........dirt and all... those beds still produce when there is a flush going on. Pickers should JUST RESPECT THE LAND and leave little to no trace of thier being there. I took a friend into a patch this yr and she commented on the fact that there was no sign this patch has ever been picked before..... well knowing that I have picked it for 20+ yrs and taken tons of matsutake out of it (over 600lbs this yr. but sadly its ribboned for logging) I feel a sence of pride knowing I have left no sign........ That patch and the trees in it are like friends... I will miss them... Randy
Tinker... hey bud there is no problems. That's what this site is all about.....sharing ideas and opinions. I can say we need to do real research north of the 49th as matsi from Terrace behaves dif. than matsi from where Andy is. For now we have to rely on data from research thats been done. Our wonderful BC govt's commitment to research of NTFP and mushrooms is ZERO. We have watched them spend tens of millions of dollars on a "pine mushroom task force" and then NOT do one of the recommendations from that, tax paid for, committee. If the BC Govt has done any research it has done a good job in keeping the results hidden from us. To say they are pathetic is an understatement, our BC Govt. would rather waste tax dollars of group get togethers at fancy resorts. Maybe they do this so not to empower or enlighten us in regards to the criminal logging practices now happening in COASTAL BC. Tinker I want you to know that you have already earned my respect and I have no problems if we have a different opinion. Discussing these differences in a mature respectful way is how we move forward and learn. Over the yrs on this site I have learned much from many on here.... Peace............. Randy
sigh all this mushroom talk .... now lets talk about the breeders cup next weekend ... somebody give me a pick six please or a pat superfecta ....jk Hey Randy guess they're done over there eh or pretty close.... i have found like you Randy that continuous picking and raking of some areas does them in and other places no .... all depends a lot on steepness of the slope i find the steeper the less they come back once the top layer is removed.... and like you cellar i do believe when man gets loose in almost any intact eco system its the eco system that suffers everytime ..... go figure eh .....the one area i went into this year in early september had been gone over really good by both bears and deer.... that is one area i suspect that this natural feeding of the animals actually helps.... i've never seen so many patches of 30 40 mushrooms and tons of alltropa ger
New Photo, http://matsiman.com/gallery/myokos_2_one_half_pound_matsutake.htm
Tinker, learning is what this site is about. Many visitors come to the board without reading anything else on the site. It gets frustrating. However, I don't mind directing anyone to information they are looking for, or need. The Umpqua studies are what the publication are based in. Here is the link to the final science publication.
formalpubs/Effects of mushroom harvest.pdf
I would also like to add this basic rule. Typically no damage is done unless the MINERAL SOILS ARE DISTURBED. Litter removal can cause damage if temperatures are hot at the time. Exposing the mycelia to high temps, 85 degree plus F, can cause damage. East side Oregon cascades often reaches these temps during early fruiting.
it would probably be a first if something destructive that man did actually benifitted the environment. I have no knowledge of what effect raking will have on different area's, but I do know when I removed a old car hood off of my property and all the moss was dead underneath, it took 3yrs for just some green to start to show and 6yrs for the moss to actually recover. But I do have some 6in deep moss on my property, typical Terrace country. When I hear the term "raking", it immediately brings to mind the term "strip mining". Good or bad, it looks like hell.
Kingmorel,I must admit that although I have been picking for many years I have never really paid any attention to the research that has gone into matsutaki mushrooms. This is my first year on this site and it's making me realise that I have a lot to learn.I guess I can be a bit of a mule so please continue to be patient with me as I continue to learn more.;)
matsiman, are you talking about the umpqua matsi study or is there another one that I'm not seeing?
Hi Woofer you wanted me to let you know if I was going to make myself matsi seasoning ,I did and it turn out great, started with one pound of smoke dry pine(matsi),hope that I have a one year supply?. Ho ya price in Powell river for pine is @$15.00+?($2.00) Rene
Tinker..... I picked the airport patch before and after it was raked in the early nineties. Alot of the ground raked was not matsi beds.... The same thing happened at the gravel pit on Kalum rd. north of Terrace. I must admit that to so altar the habitat would have a negative responce to some degree so areas where moss is very deep like Terrace it sometimes may lessen future flushes. Ground like the dunes and the caves litter is less important. I have stalled beds by putting big pieces of bark over them to hide the buttons from other pickers so it goes both ways. I think for every patch that shows ill effects of raking, five will show no effects. some patches just dont produce every yr. and infact some beds will only flush every five to ten yrs or so. Some times if you look at baby buttons wrong they just stop growing..... sometimes even stepping on them will not stop them.................. Andy the dunes would be a very interesting patch to do research for sure. maybe we could sit down and discuss that patch sometime....Randy
You could cut matsi if only you were going to eat them yourself.
I responded to the author of the article matsiman. It was so full of holes and misleading. Harvest matsi's with a knife? That could only be said by someone who has never harvested a Matsi.
Tinker, Read the results of the study. Our average litter layer was 1 inch!! One of the Japanese methods of improving matsi fruiting is to reduce the litter layer, in Korea, they also reduce litter layer. It's not the litter, it's the soils. Later Matsiman.
In early today, out by 3pm. some terrific buttons and a couple of buckets of flags. Apparantly Nicky in Lake Cowican is paying $15.00 for #1. May be a buyer at BB. didn't stop. The Matsi are great and a few more every few dayz. Full moon 25th and maybe a 7 day flush. Temperature is ideal for flush, between 40-60F. We have this Monsoon style weather on the Island with a good cloud cover and no chance of going below 40F. The rain is good as it will hold the temp in check. Plenty of other types of shrooms buttoning as well the White Chants are still quality. (I encourage pickers to cultivate restaurant sales for Whites as they are obviously meatier than Yellows and ya can git $5.00LB, coulda picked 50LB today however my custoers have enuff. Whites freeze real well (sauted in butter first). Anyhow looks like the Flush will continue at a 'slower than usual rate'. ----Again almost every Patch is slated to be logged. Talked to a couple of pickers that got over 300LB in a day in 2004--- they went to the same Patch this morning and there aint a twig left.... PS Johnyboy... Blueberry Flats, to my understaning, is owned by an Amercian Company and is going to be a massive gravel Pit. I waz in there a couple of dayz ago and not worth crawling around the Foxbur... every Bolete waz picked. Heres to my last excursions on the Island, too bad something can't be done to stop the logging insanity. Cougar.
Matsiman,I think your studys are extremely important and I have alot of respect for you and your work.I mean no disrespect by my post but I have to agree with RobT ...that the duff up north is very slow to recover.
Kingmorel, when I talk about raking I'm not talking about people who are messy pickers that scruff up the ground and make it look awful.I am sure that at some time over the years you must have visited the airport in Terrace....that's the kind of damage I am talking about. There is an area adjacent to the airport that has been fenced off for many years now.....in the early ninties I got permission to pick this patch but was warned that it was not very good anymore because it had been so badly raked in years past.As I walked from tree to tree I could clearly see the old rakes even though a few years had pasted since the area was picked.Yes, I did find mushrooms, but they were few and far between and yet the airport patch which is right next door was producing well.In 1994 the airport patch was also ripped up so bad it was beyond belief,I can't even explain how bad it was.The flush did continue to come well but in the years since has never been the same.I guess what I'm trying to say is that it may not hurt a flush in progress but the following year won't be as good even if conditions are right.
Need my coffee there Carla. Back on my mad's now after the state cut me off four weeks ago and back to the V.A.They well not cut me off. Blood test on monday for diebetes ll and H.C.V. Im praying that H.C.V.is gone from my blood but then if it's not I must learn to just live with it.
they may have do it because some tree's may have had root rot if not all?
Matsiman, I have to say yes I did send him my two cent's but also gave him the chanch to go out and really seesome place's to well not grow for another 50 are so years. I hope he would take the hook?. I well not give up tell ther write both side's of the story
leaning oak, i can't believe they logged blueberry flats :(,,,,whats the point of that? poor twigs.
lol Andy did you put my name in the user name box??? I shake my head when I hear people say "i've been picking for 50 yrs." I picked morels all my life but I dont say I've been picking for 53 yrs.!!!! but when I was young I collected to eat......... nvr started "picking"(for resale) till the mid 80's. ............. I have never seen raking on the dunes. what I have seen is too many pickers scratching the same beds every day over and over. I must say again I dont beleave it stops a patch as I have heard this before and then went and found lots of matsi's where it was ripped up..... right where some of the locals said they were raked and now done. Just because there are no shrooms any givin yr does not mean it was from raking........ many yrs there are just no shrooms.....not in the raked areas or in the not raked areas. Leaf blowing nvr hurt the cave patches at all, in fact I know ppl that used blowers and they blew litter back onto patches that had been raked clean by asian crews. Shroomertom you need to get your facts straight but I understand your frustration as a mess is a mess no mater what anyone says....... leave no sign of your coming or going..... peace Randy
Glad to hear that some people acknowledge that raking does do damage...but I guess the world would be a pretty boring place if we all thought alike so it's important to value other peoples opinions as much as our own.
Yep that's my point. What looks bad and makes ya yell, I've been heard 2 miles away, doesn't mean there is damage. This lady did this in the mid 90's at the monthly special forest product council meetings. She makes out to be knowledgeable, but doesn't pick!!! I don't think she has ever had a commercial permit, or I'd venture to say never picked. We don't need this. That's why I spent 14 years with the study. Pisses me off nobody cares, or listens. All I can do is grin and bare it. It's simple, look at the raked area, check the level of disturbance indicated by the study, and you'll get the damage done. It's a no brainer, woops forgot I am dealing with a non picker and a reporter, never mind!!! Hell most of them think matsi lives in the litter, not the soils!!!
Hey Carla, applied for a camp host position in your area.
I hope you will not censor this as a "racist" comment. I lived in O Brien for a while and I can tell you that raking and leaf blowing devestated the Cave crop for years and it only started recovering in the past 4-5 years. Raking DOES stop patches on the dunes--if the weather is dry. I have seen it virtually shut down patches until there is sufficient rain. It also shuts down Lobster patches. Only mongrels and idiots--who can't see keeper shrooms--need to rake...getting mostly dinks in the process. That's what happens when your company buddies try to undercut skilled pickers with unslilled third-world labor.
Ok I have also picked the patches above cave jct. on the caves rd. and must concur with RobT and matsiman. Raking will slow the flush or stall it "sometime" but not always. The "dunes" in Florence are also a good example where too many people scratched at the same bed day after day and it would look raked but the mushrooms keep coming. I have had Asian pickers find and pick patches I pick and they picked them "hard" where the beds were ripped up, but those patches still produce well today..... looked like hell for sure and totally stupid if you ask me. I picked those patches for 20+ yrs and you would be hard pressed to find picking evidence there behind me. I will carry pockets full of tree needles and I will camoflage my pick holes. twigs from Oregon grape or salal etc. also help hide picking evidence. Once the ground is ripped up sp if its mossy its harder to find the new buttons. I will also say the time it takes to rip is lost time.. and I will out pick any that rip or rake and I will have mushrooms in my hand not moss..... Moss and leaf litter helps hold the moisture..... Randy
Matsiman.. good morning.. you are right, i have picked the area above the caves in the past, it was "raked' and looked like"hell" but as you say it just keeps on going and going like the energizer bunny. to me the difference between oregon and lets say nass is that the duff will reproduce and if the moss is raked (up north) it will not. just bought a toyota dalia mini camper "diesel" .. japanese domestic export right wheel drive.. I think it will cost me about $12 to go to the caves here from white rock.. see you soon
Did anybody email the author of the article I posted below. Occasionally I ask visitors to respond to surveys and such. Been disappointed in the past with responses. For the first time I have a personal interest in this one, and you should also. This site is here primarily to clear up miss conceptions about mushrooms and the people who pick them. This article implies some of us are presently destroying patches in the Cave Junction area. It's an old story I have investigated. Fact is removal of litter layer is happening in some patches. The same ones almost every year. I have closely examined "raked" areas in Cave Junction, more than once. In each case I found no damage to patches. Next year, fruiting again, and raking. Our study showed this type of disturbance has no adverse effects, and may stimulate fruiting. Those of us who know call it tickling the patch. The areas disturbed look like hell, piss me off, but no damage done. Please email the author with your opinion, or let the article stand as is. Thanks, Matsiman
Woofer, Found 5 pounds of chanties in a select pick, yesterday @ 2500 feet down west side. Only picked fully mature and clean. Mushrooms were in perfect condition, but small as the chanties are here. Yep they were yellows. Patches were checked about 10 days ago, and nothing was found. Figure I left another 30 pounds. The entire flush isn't up yet. Rick and I are probably going to get em Tuesday. Later, Matsiman
August, Your question about matsi and soils is mostly unanswerable. Not much work has been done as far as I know. Basically matsi changes soil composition. Everything in it's path is left lifeless when it moves on. Tree roots, bacteria and such are dead!! An abundance of free nitrogen was found in one investigation. Look at this page for a general description. http://matsiman.com/introduction.htm
Greetings to all you people. I have never picked mushrooms before, and i'am looking for a spot i can take my daughter to find some mushrooms here in Powell River, because we are new in town. If any of you guys know where i might be able to find some pines around here, that would be great. fish42@outgun.com
carla set the clock to go off with devie's club to poke you up for coffee in the morning ok lol. good night all.
hey Dave, call me.#s the same
prices in powell river are 15 for about a week now. cheers
Patchless. what ever you do make shear you mark them well because you may be looking for them in tan year's from now and keep a log on them and mark down everthing that gose on around there.take soil and have it tested P.h.c and anything ele's. in ten year's do it again and ever ten year's after but find some one to work and learn what your doing to help keep going. I don't know your age and how long you what to do this. Do what ever it take's to save the land. If they plant other tip of tree's log them in also. I myself am doing the same thing here and if I live to be 97 i well know more about there growth and if I don't my son well take over for me!!.
A true I could do that, should do that. Just not sure if I want to go see what's not there anymore, yet. I'll work on it.
1=541-269-2309 here is Carla #
Carla, where are you located? I'm in So. Oregon now, where I used to pick matsi and sell to Cave Junction folks. For the last 6 years I've been picking Chanti's and such and selling in Cottage Grove. I read your post regarding times, but I need to know how to get ahold of you. My cell is 261-4065. John
we got a killer picture of turkey tail fungus today, turned out great even in the pissin rain!,did some more exploring as neither my wife or i are from this area.damn i hate gates!,used to be "if you can drive it go for it" not no more...sigh.got some good pics of diferent shrooms so far this season and lots of qaulity time with the little woman.full buckets to all
Hey A' I can't seem to find your e-mail addy to e-mail you. Here is mine again. boleteman@hotmail.com drop me an e-mail with matsi in the topic and I will return the e-mail and we can chat. duncan
Patchless, you still have time to dig up berry plants now that there sleeping
Sad about Blueberry. It was an eco-system that I hadn't seen before in this area. Always was gonna dig up some Evergreen huckleberry and hope some mycelium came with it to transplant . And now it's too late. Didn't think there was enuf big stuff left after the first massacre for them to bother with. Bas#@$s.
leaningoak, what you should is some how mark the tree that where there before they replant the unit. Why? well because they are theone's that well frist show the frist growth of mushroom. What ever you do mark it even if your not going to be around to see your work but do it so other's well when the time come's.Just pick out five tree's in the hole block and make a map of the unit. I know this sound like a lot of work but maybe they would it Leaningoak Matsi plot just like johnny apple seed lol.
Sooke, British Columbia [Vancouver Island] Blueberry Flats - good pine hunting ground for recreational pickers for a long, long time - has been completely logged. It's gone. Along with it the rare and beautiful blue <i>Albatrellus flettii</i> and <i>Albatrellus caeruleoporus</i> and the also rare <i>Tricholoma apium</i> have lost their habitat.
Matsiman/ Andy. have you ever taken soil sample's for nutrient in the ground. If not they should be done to see what soil produnc's more are less.I have one place I have been pick for many years and now other's have found it 15 year's ago some of the picker's have raik the ground with there hand's and never put back the sand and duff. but it has produnc as if know one has ever found it!!. I do know that the last three year's there has been little to no picking there and it maybe do to closeing of the mountain at 3'000 feet and above now there road's have been wash out so bad only 4x4 can make it there and also only one way now to get in there. It has alway's been closed to picking for 18 to 20 year's now but those of us that know have are way's toget in there.I to am one whom has pick there long before buyer's ever show up in the town of couger.I do watch the bad's and how there well grow after being raik by other's.
does anyone know how nakusp is doing and what prices are at? thx
poker tourney???? ya what site or are you talking live??? the deeper duff nutrient rich are good all right .... the boney areas will produce bigger on rainy years.... biggest mushrooms i find are on north facing slopes in the moss ///duff /// ger
Hi Montana_Picker. I am only limited on buy times by all of my kids... I am usually open from 3-7 (LOL, at the 7, I never get out of there until 9 unless I am extremely lucky). Most of the guys call if they are going to be past 7:30... The other buyer stay open later than me, I am the only one with a bunch of teens that need lost of supervision...LOL
Powell river =no pine$10.00 , chantrelle =fair to good for now but it can change fast,$ 2.00

Hi Mtlilman. I work in Coos Bay Oregon, but my boss is in Arcata and we can work it out so that you go to either of us... ;-)
Hi rpm rene whats happening over your way any idea what the prices are ?
Hi Matsiman, CONGRATS!!!!
whom is off ther med's that u'all are talking about?????I must have not it read it unless it was the paper boy/
The patch that I was talking about in my post is one that only a hand full of people pick, so maybe its reliable because the ground is very well taken care of.It could be that the patches that aren't reliable are that way because they have been to damaged.... although I can't help but believe that a mushroom spores for a reason.Your right Randy... it is pretty hard to pick a patch clean. My patch continues to get better and better as the years go by so I will continue to do my thing.Tinker
hey CD (mike), did you read my message a few days ago? i am still interested in doing some exploring. got in at the gate at BB, not worth the suspense. all my low pine patches are not producing, and all the chantrelle patches i know are mush. anyway drop me a note at tzabo@shaw.ca .....zed
Beer this early? Somethin ain't right w/that boy. He should try bailey's/coffee and scotch if he wants to start drinkin this early.
TableTopper, Hope not many saw that last post!! Wow, sounds like nobody is safe from lawyers. Not off meds, on beer!!!! Let's keep it to ourselves.
Looks like someone is off their meds again... can someone interpret?
I used to think that some mushrooms (pines, but also chanterelles to some extent) were genetically programmed to be smaller than others, or just genetically inferior...but I now think that while there may be some truth to that, the size a mushroom becomes has more to do with make-up of the soil than anything else - how nutrient rich it is, how compact, how well drained etc. The biggest buttons I know of are in the deep nutrient rich duffy soils and the smallest are in the compact, shallow, nutrient depleted soils. I've been accused of being a master of the obvious in the past, but I just thought I'd chime in with that cuz I hadn't heard it mentioned...at least not lately anyway...to be continued...poker tourney to play. CD
Ed, very accurate info you have noticed. matsiman, myself, king morel and others have also noticed the same effects you have, in the PNW season, and temp have more to do with a flush than anything else, and water will increase the size of mushrooms, not the amount like most belive, mushrooms are basicly land sponges and will abosrb liquid and grow accordingly to the amount they pick up. I have picked many chanterelles and pines in ground that is dry and dusty, but the temps have been perfect for growing conditions, cool at night and warm in the day, granted they may not be giants when the moisture levels are low. but sometimes its better to have smaller mushrooms than no mushrooms at all. thanks for the input
It would be pretty hard to pick a patch clean with-out spreading spore. Late in a flush mushrooms will flag out pretty quick... even in hard picked granny patches you will find flags. Yrs ago I experimented putting wormies and flags in a bucket of water... mixed it up good. and poured over known beds....... the next few years those beds out produced other near-by beds by far......... We will probably find that with matsutake, there may be a "series" of events that happen that promotes or dictates a flush.. temps and humidity are but two. With growing morels time and periods of dormancy and rate of water flow play a big factor in stimulating a flush. Andy's study shows temps play a huge roll in the formation of primordia or baby buttons. The fact that flushes can stall and not continue to grow is of huge interest. In the mean time I'll hang the odd flag in a tree here and there as it cant hurt. the idea of moving beds is very interesting...... maybe Andy can work something like that into his studies..... Randy
Ed,you very well could be right.I have never picked a patch clean to find out.Tinker
I'm very careful when I pick pines and never use any tool but I have one question regarding ground disturbance. Is it ok to rake the patches that are marked to be clear cut?
Right on Ed!
Yo bro I am here. Hey Carla I was wondering if you have a set time on what time you can buy? When I picked in Crescent they only bought from 7:00 P.M. till midnight. Too anoyone, I ran into some Lion's Mane this past weekend quite the interesting mushroom, is there any kind of market for these?
Zi, why dose Alice use a balt are a whip. Just what he need's lol
Randy, Better stick with Alice, if you don't, you are going to get a lot of blisters..
holy F$#@ , you guys are freakin' me out with this talk about gout....lol
Apple well produce year after year but it take's four year year's befour it produce's and apple and over the year it has good year's an bad year's but then as it grow's older it stop's produceing like it would of at fifteen year's old and could die one winter day! so I say if you take some flag's and hang them up high in a tree you save the pitch's from growing old.How many time you pick a matsi and seen the white spore's on the ground in the same spot year after year?, just like a apple tree it reprodrucing new tree's.So I say we need to let some spore out in a tree.
KingM. Don't fuse the joint. If it proven to be gout by medical tests, get on allopurinol...
I'm not much of a believer that a picker needs to leave any pine flags around so that they will spore and produce mushrooms for the next year. I really do believe in the information that Andy has provided on this site as a result of his research. I have picked some areas clean year after year and the mushrooms continue to reproduce in the exact same spots year after year. I do not rake these areas and I am very careful about replacing the moss or soil. An apple tree can produce fruit year after year even if a person picks every apple and so it is, I believe, with the pine mushroom. So there, I've had my two cents worth. Also, temperature variations over time dictate the size and appearance of a flush. I have kept temperature charts for many years now and the relationship is undeniable. Rain increases the size of the individual mushrooms but not the number of them. I have watch people here in the Northwest pray for rain so that a crop will appear. Well, most often it rains and still no flush. There is only a flush when the temperature rise and fall corresponds with the rainfall. Now, there, I've had my four cents worth. Better quite for now.
Montanapicker where are you and are you ready to fill some baskets this season.Full buckets to All
Thanks Carla thats good to know my crew is getting ready to fill some Pine orders what is you r main area or where do you setup.Got Some nice lookin #1,2,and 3's
kingmorel...us gout sufferers have to stick together!!! Someone mentioned drinking alcohol and how it relates to gout. From what I've read, beer is the worst thing to drink, followed by wine. If you are going to drink hard liquor is the least harmful.
Ok Alice is safe.... but.... I got 10 cases of cherry juice and a 6 month supply of viagra.... went to Doc today. xray in the morning but he figures it is gout and degenerative arthritis so will prob have surgury to remove bone spurs and fuse the joint.... such is life... could be alot worse.. Carla.... u 2 funny........ JDS. thx... btw I have been very impressed with you lately...you do have a human side bud and its nice to see that...Thx everyone else as well.. bless you all. Randy
That dose not work with Alice and if I hear that Alice and you did Then I'll never sead her to help you out again. lol
think I will try the sex therapy first ;)
When Uric acid builds up in the blood, it crystalizes in the joints, thus "Gout". When Gout occurs, the body does not have enough of the digestive enzyme, "Uricase". The result is, Uric acid builds up and crystalizes. If it isn't controlled, It can lead to "Kidney Stones". Stay away from - Alcohol, soft drinks, anchovies, asparagus, legumes, "Mushrooms", red meats and shellfish. "Do" eat - Foods high in potassium. Apple Cider vinegar, lemons, as well as cherries work for the same reasons, the flavonoid "Quercetin". It neutralizes Uric acid....(P.S.) For men, sex works also. Don
Good article matsiman. One should never pick thier patch right to the end of the season that way there are always mushrooms left to spore.I have always left my patch about a week before the flush is over and it has produced reliably year after year even when other patchs don't.On the other hand I have seen areas that are picked clean every year, where the moss has been ripped up for five or ten feet leaving the trees roots exposed, these areas do not produce well every year,in fact they may not produce again for many years. If new comers aren't taught how to harvest we can expect more and more patches to be severley damaged.I also take the time to remove the dirt from the bottom of the mushroom(pines)and put it back in the hole.I don't really know if this makes a difference but I do it anyways.Tinker
Duncan is right. I get gout once a year and I was told by my grandpa to drink cherry juice. I buy it at my health food store. It has to be pure cherry juice and it works great. I will also say that the pain is greater than any. My grandpa also told me to lay off the beer. I just stick with drinking the cherry juice when the gout comes.....
Randy, I am careful about giving medical advice. Having said that, coffee will purge some Uric Acid from your system. Uric Acid being the root cause of Gout. The other home remedie that I can testify to is "Apple Cider Vinegar". Mix lots of sugar with the vinegar and water, you have a kind of "Sweet and Sour" one can tolorate. Take two to three times a day to start. About a tablespoon to 12 oz. glass should do it. This works with about 60 percent who use it. Don
Woofer, No snow this morning!!! Took yesterday partially off. Went to 7 Feathers for a few hours. WE won enough to pay for trip and some extra!! I am camped at Briggs forest camp ground, 3701 road. Bunch of hunters here. Expect more this weekend cause Elk season opens. Tell Shawn to be careful and maybe wear a vest and stop by. Later Matsiman
Hi Morelmaniac. I always have dried product available, well almost always ;-)
Hi Mtlilman . I am based in Oregon and have a pretty big poundage buy here.
Hi JDS, Kingmorel doesn't mind my humor one bit, I am sure... ;-)
Duncan. you still have not e-mail me some ice pop morel's. what's up with that dud.
JDS, Well I working on 58 but never had gout but do have recless leg's and I find it very hard to sleep at night inless I use tea tree oil but then my other half well kick me out of the room because the why it smell's lol.
Hey Randy, I have heard that cherries work wonderful for gout. no you dont soak your feet in them but eat them. I have a cherry paste like preserve that is rich in flavor and nutes! Just trying to help out. duncan out :-0

Garf, call now if you wish. I am already on my third cup of java and I am wide awake. Gerry L.
Anyone have 3 lbs. of dried yellow chants to sell, also looking for 1 lb. each of : Chicken of the woods, Matsi- 1-4,s, Kings or Admirable Bolete and Cualiflower. Must be #1 grade and properly sealed for shipping. Call 1-866-717-6677. Garf hope your getting better and still smilin'. Give a call as we have some things to talk over before I come down in Nov. Randy, Sorry to hear about your toe. One trick taught to me that actually is for sweating feet is to boil the inner bark of a poplar tree in a large pot for 20 min. and when comfortable enouph soak your feet/foot in the water until cool. Repeat once a day for three to four days. Don't know why it works for relieving gout but seeing how asprin is in willow and poplars are in the same family there may be a connection. Anyway it stops your feet from smelling and sweating. Ask The Beaver about this as he knows this trick first hand. I remember him doing this in the Nahatlatch in '99 as his lady would not let him in the camper if his feet were a little odorous. Kinda funny at the time. Peace. Gerry L.
good to hear from you Sam.... i'm doing pretty good most of the time thanks.... yes i do sure hope we have a meeting after the season and some of us can meet and get the ball rolling to change this business around and get this buyint cartel out..... there isnt a lot coming in around here Sam .... even though i can't get out i have a friend who buys and he sadi yesterday he had in about ten lbs of varied and actually nice white mushrooms but lots were open.... i think he was paying 12 not positive on that .... but as terry used to say once the button count gets down to a certain percentage that flush is on its way out and won't recover..... randy speaking for myelf i know what the next age is gonna be and its called old age and its fast approaching ..... sorry to hear you're hurting ..... sam you probably could find some mushrooms here though just not a lotta.... ger
Just want too say THANKYOU Matsiman for this site, I like how you keep the personal attacks and bad threats against our great product at bay. Keep up the good work. Goodluck and good picking
Matsiman, at least ya found a couple, from the look of the webcam at the intersection, I would say its a bit white looking up there, be safe in the fluffy stuff. Shawn will be up hunting by where we like to camp off the 100 road, He is heading up tomorrow after he picks up the tent and other camping stuff. I may try to get up above prospect on sunday if I can sneak away to get some chanterelles and a few stary pines

I am Lori's bro and my son was up here and said some stuff. However it was not threatening and I have had a talk with him and it will stop. If anyone has any issues please email me at joewaynec@yahoo.com Do not take it out on my sister Lori as she or I had nothing to do with it. But if anyone is to blame it would be me. But heck it was a kid doing something stupid and he got busted. Let me tell you he got busted :). Joe Lori's real Bro

I'm throwin the old camper on the truck for the weekend, donno which way I'm headin yet north or east . Wanna do some scoutin for new patches :) white chants.... hmm. cheers ! will try to bring back some pics to post . Anyone any action in the Whistler area ? pines? gotta start talkin about this co-op / assn. again. what TC has started has to be carried on !! treeguy , tripod p. you're on the right track ! when this season is over we have to have a meeting with as many pickers as possible to throw some ideas around and hopefully educate some to stop giving their mushrooms away for pennies !! ;) cheers , full buckets to everybody!!! Sam in BBY.
Geeez n mine just hurt!,feet that is .we got a good hike in the rain today, all for a full bucket of chanties. We decided to pay the kid 5$ lb,inspiration for a 17 yr old,he made 50 offa us,hope we can sell em ! lmao.O the price of parenthood!
A'...Can't say for sure. My first experience came at the age of 56. I took a bad step in the afternoon, came down hard on my left foot, and in the middle night of the night the pain woke me up. Oh, by the way, I had chicken gizzards for dinner that night. ANY kind of organ meat is something to be avoided if a person has gout. You couldn't pay me to eat those gizzards now!!!
I have herd that tree tea oil in warm water to soak your foot work's really well. I use it on my leg's when they refuse to get out of bed in the morning and toothache's. Dose not teast very good but it work's'. Also pine pitch help's, just rub it on and raip it up overnight.
JDS, at what age dose it start at and should I start plaining ahead myself. I may be to young for it. shame on you Carla, "A toe truck"LOL. Randy im not L.AT.U but L. FOR. U. JDS don't take me wrong!.
Carla...Cute play on words, but if I may say so a little misguided. Gout is no laughing matter. Imagine the absolute worst toothache you have ever had in your big toe (or other joint). I have had a broken arm and root canals, and they don't start to compare to the pain of gout. You're lucky, because gout is much more common in men than women, and age is also a factor.
Hi Smile, You know I love yah, dont yah?
Hey Kingmorel, Should I call the TOE Truck??? LOL
smile, were about are you?if you live near portland give this guy a call and ask for rick360-213-5158 and say that I gave you the #

carla please call me im sitting on the lob but need to get them sold somewhere,.dont want too lose money
iam wanting to know if any pines in boston bar
kingmorel...Sorry to hear your misfortunes and ailments...especially that gout. I get it from time to time and I know how intense that pain can be. I don't even want to think about dropping something on a big toe that has gout in it. I hope you are aware of the "bad" foods that can cause gout. Mushrooms...dammit...are one of the culprits. I'm real careful now about eating them.
Guess you won't be signing your posts....Randy on the run for awhile! IMAO
August & Randy....to funny lol
accident prone... ya think? lol It was a momment of anger where "everyone" got outta my way and let me go "green" whoever built that counter they nvr gave any thought to taking it apart. fricken 20,000 screws with the heads stripped... and yes the best memories.

A...... im great bud. despite pain I am great.... getting to spend time with my boys...(who are well to do big men now...YIKES How did that happen? ... lol) I do what I want and when I want for the most part.... btw srry to here of your loss..... must be hard. Peace man.... Randy
A... I have chatted with Mayan elders and Shaman and they dont beleave the world will end in 2012 but they do beleave its the end of this "AGE" In relation to our solar system does anyone know the nxt age we will go into?
kingmorel, what's up with you. Are you getting ready for the end ----of the season or 2012 lol
Andy.. I had one of those days yesturday myself.......... put a wood screw into my thumb joint... dropped a counter top onto my gout inflamed big toe joint (think its broken as its swollen pretty bad right now) and another piece of tendon let go in my right ankle (old picking injury) so getting about today is rough..... how does one limp with both feet? No mater as the sun is shining at the moment and there is so much to do...Randy
Sorry there Andy for the snow. There is alway's a reason for everthing like keep you money tell 2012 then spend it for are last shroom hunting trip before the end.
Tinkerbell . there are still a few secrets in the DYKE and blow down has always been an issue there with over mature forests and root rot. One learns the little "doors" or entryways. Over the yrs I have prob been in just about every bit of woods from Kitwanga to 130km. including the Iskut and Bell 2 patches, but VanDyke I know best. I remember when the road only went to 2-3km. and we had to hike up the mountain to get in the good stuff or try to get in from the Sadle........ I remember the yr they pushed the rd into 6km... that season we seen only 10 other pickers max. One of the things I noticed yrs ago is most of the old pine trees are gone now, for the most part anyways... (now blow down) I have my own names for these patches that go back to its beginnings.... thx for the reminder of some very good memories... Randy
Thanks folks for your support. Been a bad morning. Message warning me not to censor, SNOWING, shipping date to meet, and a planned overnight trip to 7 Feathers (casino) cancelled due to snow!! Oh well, that's life. We checked the study Monday. Found about 1 1/2 pounds various grades. Some water logged and some freeze damage. It's under snow now.
Treeguy and tripod picker. I sale my chant's on resale at ten doller's a lb if the price is higher and if it drop's low I still sale them for ten this way it well all even out. but if I was to buy 20 lb's from you thenI would have to add shipping to the cost. What we need to do is set a price that we all could live with. My price's for re-sale on bolete's is $10 and morel's $10 and chant's $10 but blue's $15,white's chant's $8,Lobster $10 but like I said before, when high and when low it all pay's out well.
Andy If you have to go to a registered board I will kick in some funds........ Even a rigistered board will not keep them out as they will just re register under a sock puppet.. unless you have a 24hr plus wait time for conformation of registration. In the end all you can do is ban a IP address but that would take down others with the same IP address... best thing to do is to just ignor and delete thier posts when you see them. As I make my name and email well known I get these same threats from time to time so i'm not surprised, I just consider the source and laugh as I hit the delete button... Randy
Hi Matsiman. I will gladly help with the cost of a registered board if it has to go there someday... I am not sure who the troublemaker is but if you happen to read this, please stop and think before you post...
A-man there morelmaniac.
Matsiman!!!! Not sure why there are people putting threats on the board or towards yourself, but if it comes to a Registration entry I will be only to glad to sign up. This board is important to many of us for differing reasons but still an essential communication tool. If the board will cost you more to keep operating maybe we all could put up a little something to assist in the expanded costs. I for one would be happy to pay a few bucks towards keeping this site available to the shrooming public. As for the ones committing the "ILLEGAL" act of threatening through electronic means, I have some news for you, under the laws of both our Countries any person or persons who threatens another person or property by ANY MEANS is liable and can and will be prosecuted to the full extent of our laws should the recipient of said threats wish to pursue prosecution and place a formal complaint in front of thier local law enforcement. Matsiman, do not hesitate to pass on any and all pertinent information to your local District Attornies Office and they will put a stop to this stupidity. Gerry L.
Morning all, Well, it's finally happened. One of our visitors has had a relative warn me not to sensor , or as he put it, threaten his sister. This poster and his sister, are forever banned from posting on this site. I have no way of keeping them out except to go to a registered board. A pain in the butt for me and you, and will cost more for me to keep the site up. I won't go there now but will if inappropriate posts, warnings or threats persist. Before I do go to user registration, I will post abusers email and ask visitors to help in stopping these posts. I can also post a board with abusers email as the place messages are sent. This way visitors email won't be in the message. Sorry for the conflict. This board is not for personal conflicts but some visitors must be censored. I will not delete abusing visitors posts to date, but if improper posts continue, all messages posted by abuser will be deleted, and all private communications between abuser and myself will be posted here. Later, Matsiman
Matsiman dose not have to give anyone a part of his board to anyone. He did offer me and Alice and her so called fan's a place to shot the ever day bull and we have learn that something's you just must let go tell the time come's to past. What he offer to another was a opportunity to help us all know what was going on with all the joe's and so on.If I was to give you a top job in my sale's office and then you made my company look real bad in the frist week, you would also would find yourself out in the street. Just let it go,that's all anyone could ask. Name calling well never help anyone to get over it.
Boy, this board need's to be worked on!
yup well 1.75 sounds better then .50 for chanty buttons personally im drying mine
Tripods right, they r worth quite a bit more
If I sold my yellows for $1.75 I would be to embarrassed to tell anybody.
"A"has the right idea,i could move chantrelle here in vancouver without much trouble.was thinking of buying to fill orders the other day.we are doing it ourselves here in vancouver.
nice 1.75lb pays for some gas. thats for the yellow chants?
Here we go everone, can you see what he is saying?.All we need to do is buy from each other when we are in need for sale's to those that we sale too. We all set are price's on the board and and resale to are outlet's. But we need to remembre to keep a lest of those that send good, clean and frech. Let's learn to barter with each other?

Cougarman, interested in moving Shiros, have you tried it before? Has it been successful?? I've thought about it before. How far down do you dig and how much mycelium do you take? Have you tried taking Candy Cane too?? Of course the major problem is moving it to an area that it would grow in that isn't slated to be logged. Porous nitrogen, ok would that be an area whites are in mebbe?? It would be nice to feel you are doing something so save the patch.
I tried Pemberton again this past weekend and found very little.. what I did find was old. I honestly don't think it's going to happen this year. I'll try again in a week or so, but not very hopeful.
Thanks PICKER,I just unloaded 33lbs of chanties for $1.75lb.Might hit matsi's this weekend.
Garf unfortunatly most of the south island has been sold to timberwest and is private land the natives can not make land claims on private property maybe part of the reason the government sold it in the first place .There is also no enviromental controls on logging this land timberwest can do what ever they want log it and then sell it for real estate which they are now doing it would be nice to blockade the roads but being as it's private land you would be arrested for tresspassing in no time so seems we are pretty well screwed here on the south island. The fat lady is already singing.
Hi tom@ wildgourmet. The season for Chicken of the woods is right now. I got 10 pounds of awesome stuff last night...
ok tinkerbell.... cougar the only way i could see that there would be a snowballs chance in you know where to stop the logging of the last old growth on the island is to have the natives onside as they can probably prove in court that their rights to this land that the bc government gave away to the timber companies was never extinguished under treaty.... find some chiefs and join together ,,,, between all there could be a very viable way to stop them .... ger

At this time
Fryed chicken is growing it this in Washington an Oregon.
Tom,Chicken of the wood's or fryed chicken?. If your asking about chicken of the wood's then all of Washington is done and most all of Oregon also is done but California may have some.
About dried matsi - I'd also suggest slicing them top down so you can keep the outline of the mushroom. I've seen them cubed, torn by hand and even top and bottom seperated, but definitely think sliced top to bottom will sell the best. Personally, I think dried matsi are excellent, especially in a steak sauce or mixed up with less expensive, fresh cultivated mushrooms. The restaurant can still say "matsutake" in the menu which should go over well if it is in an area with lots of Japanese tourists. Market might now be big, but it's got potential.
In Montreal now, found a retail shop selling fresh lobster, golden chants, pines, cauliflower, black trumpets... prices ranged from around 23-32/lb. Pines were really nice buttons. BTW, when is the season for chicken of the woods? Never tried but want too! -Tom F
Hi everyone. There really is not a big market for dried Matsi but the way to dry them is to slice them 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick and make sure they are crispy all the way through. The trick is to get them that way and still white...
Garf, when I was responding to cranberrydawgs post I accidently put his name in the user box.
hey folks, ive been out for a while...looks like the same ol same ol round here. I think a few of you beesters need to read E. Abbeys " the monkey wrench gang"! put the screws back on the man!
Strike Over: (should read) : Payola falls into greased hands. Loggers ready to strike eco-systems once again. Mushroom pickers unite and make a stand... Blockade the roads... do we have the guts to save the Patch? // As far as prices, expect to see $30.00 to open Island . DO NOT SELL FLAGS. Kepp it above $6.00, anything else sell to restaurants. You can get an easy $8.00 for anything that aint bubit or rusty.

Lori, had enough of the speculations about what happened to TC's board. Visitors don't like accusations, be they general or not. I sure as hell don't. Drop the TC lost his board insinuations, or be deleted. I, once again, advise you to contact TC and get your answer. Some of us know why, including me. However, I refuse to post reason or reasons. If TC wants the board to know, he'll post. Personal lives are not discussed here and are non of our business.
What is the best way to Dry my Matsi's I hear you are to "Slice" them then Dry?. I just Dried mine whole before are these Still Good?
Does anyone know what the prices for Matsi is in oregon. and has the 5000 pickers started in Crescent yet?
without pointing fingers I think thats what happened on T.C. Board when he had one. Goes to show it can happen on purpose as well as by accidents. take care Lori
sorry cranberrydawg when I was responding to your post I put your name in the user name box instead of my own.lol The time was 09:07:37
sheeat..................lol...... wonder why ya buchets B empty pal........lol.............full buckets all..
I think that I might know where your talking about but old habits die hard lol.Besides that steep #@$ has nice shrooms. One day I had just come out of the granny patch and climbed into my truck when I spotted a nice size grizz walking the tree line....another two minutes and I would have run right into him...Yikes.Unless the prices change in the near future I'll probable never see that mountain again...but it sure is one sweet area.
Tinkerbell, Mushroom Mountain as you call it, is better known as the S-Bends, but there is slightly more clever way in that saves all that humpin'. Used to go up the way you are talking about for years, until I saw a skinny old fella wobble out of there with a full load one day and I knew he didn't climb up those cliffs. You can figure out the rest. If you go up again, look for that grumpy old grizz that tried to run me out of there a few years back. Todd...I checked the high ground again and in my opinion, there is NO need to check it again...it looks like it's toast. The summer flush was at least 4 wks ago and I really feel as though it's not going to pop again. Tomorrow, I'm going to the area where we bumped into eachother...don't know if you've been there since? I will email you if things look interesting. CD

Greetings all, I received the message below asking for historical matsi prices. I sent him to my page, http://matsiman.com/boswellbioeco92-2005.htm . If any visitor could help with info, I would greatly appreciate the effort. Might help draw attention to what was, and what is. Thanks, Matsiman
My name is Raymond Moreno. I am doing a multiple case study of how small entrepreneurs profit in the wild mushroom businesses of the Pacific Northwest. Do you have, or can you suggest where I might find, information regarding matsutake price fluctuations from the 90's? I appreciate your time. 530.938.2777. raymond_moreno at hotmail.com Thank you, Raymond

I saw a lot of activity at some logging shows today, so I asked at the local watering hole after the bush, and was told that there is a tentifive deal in the strike that has been going on all summer. Looks like rape and pillage is about to start up again on BC coast!!

Kingmorel,I also have picked the Vandyke for many years and I agree that areas like those should be left alone! Although some areas such as km 5 don't produce as much as they used to because all the trees are falling down...a windfall nightmare now.Have you ever picked mushroom mountain? That's a real hike but well worth it.TB
lol, nope, was "the other" len.but i do know him, camped with us a few days at kit
I hear the azzies are quite stellar this year! Boomin on the jetty...
so treeguy did you used to camp in a little car ??? play pool when the mushrooms weren't very good and get me to do scouting trips for you in areas like price flint and mill lakes??? not sure if its you but if it is i believe i still owe you a few beers.... kitwanga i was there with rusty and donna ger

Is twiggy still alive?, Alice most be older then twiggy and she just live's in are mine.Well then if she is alive then she must be as round as the old growth. How many old growth's tree's dose it take to make a twiggy.?
Gerry L. amagine the surprise when the snake gets to the nest and finds "big bird" waiting there for him... and we know how hungry big bird is!!!! ...... Garf they all get on thier knees for HITO... "Keith" is in P. Alberni........... I want to say more about the Vandyke..... its a forest service road/area that is 30+km. long that is almost one big clearcut now. Its about 30-45 mins north of the Zoo and was one of the best areas in the world for matsutake... to say the least is was huge. There is still alot of ground left but much of the best is now gone and time will say if they will come back in the clear cut areas. some do some dont!!! BCFS beleaves they will, but they base this belief on hypothisis rather on data from research...... in other words they play with our resource without caring for the future. Talk to your local MP's and demand that NTFP's be put back on the table........ The photos of the logging I posted below are an example of the worst logging I have ever seen, and having picked from Guatemala to the Artic circle Ive seen alot beleave me.. in this case (the photos below) the took maybe 20 trees from the whole clear cut. the rest lays on the ground. the value of that old growth forest far exceeded the value of those few trees in short or long terms....... but the logging companies dont plan to be here much longer so its "cut her all boy" and screw the invironment and the future..... its not logging anymore its just plain harvesting done by machine with very few people working.......... just more economic terrrorism by foreign companies and corrupt govts that support them...
can someone help me here .... theres joe chung,,, joe salvo,,,, apparently the big two .... now do the girls in britannia and tony hito use their facilities or export through them .... betty shore used to have her own export i thought and hito is hito fisheries is that right?? i'm trying to figure out the pecking order.... where they're cleaned , who uses the others facilities etc etc ,,, i heard the girls send theirs to be cleaned elsewhere now,,,, the cleaning facility in britannia is shut down....???? alos can.t remember the fellows name in pt. alberni who does the non wood product things for the natives .... ph # apparently very few mushrooms around here ger
yeah treeguy, Rob Baird. I grew up in PR and fished commercially with my dad and brother. learned to pick when i was 12 (1982). been in the patches for 25 years. sure am tired of a patch paying a few loggers a couple days wages rather than 20 pickers year after year. Our jobs as harvesters gets harder every year and our expenses go up. from what i understand salal is still at its 1980's prices also. so much for the non-timber forest products. The funny thing is I'm looking at getting back in the commercial fisheries and its THE SAME guys that will lowball me for the fish!! lol ya cant win. Well, off to the oilpatch to pay for my next mushroom season. ;)
Hi boot_straps. Email on the way ;-)
Hi mushroom mary. There are plenty of Chants here and they are in great shape! YAY! Finally!
Kingmorel/Randy !!!! A snake slithers in the grass looking for something to devour, and after awhile it hears the calls of the hungry fledglings in a tree above him. Without hesitation and sheer determination the snake leaves the ground and slowly works its way up the tree and proceeds to devour the young birds who were chirp, chirping away until they were all gone. Give me a call when you know the moral of the story and the reason for the posting. Garf, you too. 1-866-717-6677. Gerry L.
i believe the slogan for the timberwest protest this spring in Alberni was "Save Twiggy", i concur.
The finest Timber in the world grows on Vancouver Island. However the last stands are getting cut. The yellow cedar old growth to 400 years at higher elevations. The huge Red Cedars that are left are slated to go along with huge Firs... way over 1,000 years old. It is pure insanity to take these tress out. 95% are already gone. As well the health of the Deer is directly related to the total ecosystem health, as is the health of a Frog or Centipede. Back in 1966 the Deer in the Cowichan Valley mcame out to the highways as it waz one of the worst snowfall ever. The Deer and other animals wintering grounds have been removed. Like taking your roof of during a heavy snow and you have no place to go. Now on Vancou ver Island the Deer have to get out to the Coast to winter and the Cougars follow. Toss in a bunch of Yuppie Kyakers landing on remote beaches and you got a problem. The Liberal Government is trigger happy and stepped up the Bear and Wolf Slaughter... so much so that Bear parts are used for Crab Bait. There is absoloutely no vision. Most of the so called educated University Graduates are bought off by corporations to do thier dirty work. (Who do you think is flagging all these Falling Boundarys ans Road Location...) . As mushroom pickers it is time to make a stand for the Patches and the enviornment. Its a paradox cause of the secrecy of the Patches and the cash end of the business. However there will be no more commercial Patches the way things are going... I think Cities are glorified Prisons... however the Woods and the Patch is paradise. Cougarman
