From what I have heard is one of them got into trouble and the others went back to dig him out when they also got cot up in a second Slade came down on them all. They knew the back country and what could happen. But just like us all we also know would happens if we go into the Forest that we as well could run into a Bear or Cougar or a old tree may fall on us and there are those that hunt around Mt St Helen's as well face being blown away, They too knew it could happen and its sad to hear that it ended this way.

To bad that there had to be that many (8) killed in one avalanche. But every year in B C there are a number of these incidents. They say they were experienced and had all the "quote" equipment. That may be so....but where is the "common sense" that should go along with that. In most, but not all, cases the victims are young males 18 - 35. What more can you say. Other than "How do you educate these people in such a way that the loses are reduced" As you can tell I have a bias against Skidoos, Quads and Trail bikes. Used as a tool they certainly have their place. But as a source of pleasure, all they do is leave a big mess .... I guess it is karma that kills. To bad, very sad.

Hey there !! Hello Folks ., Well, I had a very pleasant encounter yesterday ., I was taking a walk in the far side of my farm when I found a section of logs with a lot shitake buttons they were small abut thumb size ( diameter) , anyways I did pick at least half a bushell and I didn't finish picking all the logs, I eat some of the mushrooms this morning and I could not tell that they had been previously frozen and thawed many times, since they were very good., Most of the snow is gone now . we are in the 40's , however we will be having snow days during this week , Keep warm and dry .

hummmmm, you could always call that 'Dog Whisperer' from Spain or the dog nanny from 'It's Me Or The Dog', they both seem to have good TV results.

I worked 8 different dogs while in the Air Force, 7 were German Shepherds and one was a Belgian Shepherd that could put his paws on my shoulders & weighed 130 lbs.

I do desire to eventually train a dog to hunt various gourmet mushrooms but I got spoiled with my last wolf partner whom I brought back from Alaska and now no dog seems quite up-to-snuff in comparison.

Boy do I miss that dog, he was sled broke, house broke and would carry his back pack all day long while hiking with me in the back country.

Hey Lone Lobo ., Long time since we last "spoke"., I hope things are going well on your side of the fence ., Anyways my aspirations with my new dog are less loftier than having a truffle sniffing dog ., Hell , I think I will be happy if I teach her to go outside to the bathroom and no running away while I am hunting ., I just don't have the patience to teach her ., If every thing fails, I will send her to you so you could teach her some manners . Well take care of yourself , Merry Christmas and all that., Best wishes Leo .

Greetings from snow land ., It has not stopped snowing since yesterday above knee high now ., I went today to Providence R.I. to pick my new dog, a 1 year old Blue Heller-Fox Terrier mix from Arkansas (of all places)., and she didn't like the snow or the cold , every time I did tried to take her out she kept running back into the house ., finally she was yelping to get out, she needed to take a shit, however she wanted to come back into the house really fast ., she is nothing like my old dog. hopefully she will gain confidence and in due time became a good mushroom hunting dog.

Howdy, Can't help with nicks on back of hats. There is no option to do so. I don't get your order or produce it. Can't sew anyway. You order direct from cafepress. I can however put nicks on front or back of clothing. Buyer would need to contact me with what they want, I build their product and put it up. You can't change graphics on what you order, but I can. No extra charge.

Thanks for the encouragement and urging to make more on sales. Just can't do it. I don't do this for money or notoriety.

Please allow yourself more by way of a little extra profit from sales of the T's and Caps. You not only deserve this extra, you have earned it.

Sign me up for 2 T's and 2 Caps. I also like the idea passed by Boletus Joe regarding having our personal nicknames embroidered on the back of the hats.

Hmmmmm... Mushroom Mary, Don't know to much about Truffles, but I do know this they are under ground. The amount of frost that we/you get in the coastal areas will probably not bother them. In fact, I would bet that it would improve them somewhat.

And Yes Andy Hats and tee-shirts. with some kind of "Matsiman.com" crest and a nice Pick of a huge Matsi bud. White on black, white on Blue,Green, or whatever.... Think it would be neat to see someone out there in the patch with one on his/her head....

Why shouldn't you make a few $'s for your work, and we get to ware something that shows our support for this sight.

** it would be nice if we could order it with our personal "nick" on the back of the hat. I'm not sure if that is possible.

To Toothless

For starters, If you want "to know what is all about me" I suggest you phone or email your inquiries, as asked.

To set the record straight, seeing as you missed it before, I do not consider just showing people how to set themselves up in the Wilderness with a minimal knowledge of either Mushrooms or Wilderness life "Is Sufficient". And for anyone to operate as such is criminal to say the least.

The Educational Guest camp has 1 Pro Harvester for 2 Guests. Guests are constantly under Camp care to insure that they are properly taught harvesting techniques that promote sustainble harvesting as well as Harvesting Ettiquette when in shared areas. They are also introduced to the dangers of Remote Harvesting when it comes to Wildlife Encounters and just plain accidents, and in a structured camp, prepared to respond for such problems.

Yeah, my company goals are based on ideology, an ideology that is shared by many others and an ideology that takes into consideration the promotion of Sustainable and Profitable Harvesting. My operations do not conflict with accessable commercial harvesting while at the same time we teach the next generation to harvest with "Farming" in mind, instead of the "Take it All" attitude that is prevelant amongst our present industry.

Yes!! I am a Capitalist, just like the Pro Harvester that sells their product to the same capitalist Field Buyer that sells their service to the same capitalist Wholesaler who sells to the capitalist Grocery Store or Restaraunt Owner. And I am a Capitalist when I look to take advantge of the millions of tourist dollars flooding into the Eco-Tourism sector of B.C.. Yes, I am a capitalist. But, I am a Capitalist that operates with a sense of fairness to 1. The harvester who brings in the product I sell. 2. The customer who seeks Sustainably Harvested #1 Grade product for their customers or personal table, And 3. To my Company, which pays me returns on my Capitalistic Investments so I can contribute to my household.

Now, I have been very polite responding to uninformed comments regarding my company and the goals behind it, it's called Professional Courtesy, But......

Until such a time that you have fully investigated and considered, "Why my company was created", to put my company in the same category as "The Joes" is an insult. And as far as I am concerned I consider your comments as just someone barking out of the other toothless mouth. And with the same value. Go grab some TP, you're drooling.

Gerry

Anyhow any foray about anything! seem to me ideological.Unless proven your are mushrooms god people should be septical.Otherwise just a capitalistic salesman , whorse then a mushroom s buyer. From a pro!

this has been tried before and failed. Not saying that it couldn't work. most pros pick 100lbs a day anyways. Don't think it would be easy with a bunch of no it all's in the same camp!! Better off with novice pickers and train them. They could make as much as a pro first season In virgin ground. a lot of us can get into any fire. fly in fires get hit too! but when you get into a place with no footprints look out!! You know what i mean wow!!! good luck post what happend next fall so we all can learn the pros and cons.

To Old Pro. To answer you questions.

1. Why would someone come to work for "Me"?

Answer. Pro's will come to a proven area that is big enouph for them to "Farm" and there is no competition. This allows for the Pro to harvest only the quality mushrooms as they "Farm" areas. In a competitive situation there are no garauntees that "Your" patch will remain yours. How many times over the years have you worried that an area where you were picking and farming in might get slaughtered by inconsiderate "Pickers" or unkowing novices? Pro's who can work in a team atmosphere in a remote or uncontested area can harvest 100lbs.+ every day in proven ground, providing the area is large enouph.

The cost that is involved with remoting is high. High enouph that most individuals cannot afford the cost up front themselves. Most harvesters are of the individual nature and Remoting with Friends will bring out the individual egos and major problems tend to arise and cause dissention amongst the ranks. As Pro's now hired to do a job they love, and brought in to a proven area and they don't have to worry about logistics and daily camp life chores, such as meals, drying etc.., pro's can concentrate on the job at hand. Farming and Harvesting their own patches without fear. All the Pro has to do is show up with their bedroll and personal's and enjoy their love for picking.

Yes to the EI. As an employer I am legally bound to make sure all contributions are forwarded to Revenue Canada. EI is only for Canadian Pro's. American Pro's must have a work visa and they are subject to Revenue Canada's laws regarding working in Canada. Here is the problem. Independent Harvesters do not qualify for EI status even if they do declare their earnings, nor do they get WCB coverage in case of injury in the field.

Until now, and only with my company so far. Gerry's Wildly Natural is the first Wild Mushroom company to recognize Independants as Seasonal Harvester's in order to bring about those very benefits for the Industry as a whole. There is far to much to explain here.

My set price is and will always be 1/3rd to 1/2 of my company's resale price. My designs and approaches to Remoting cost quite a bit, but with the right team in place, that cost is recoverable.

As to "What is in it for me?". Unless you are a full partner in my company, the financial gains are simply "None Of Your Business", and I say that in a respectful way and not derogatory.

Outside of the financial aspect, I and my company are endeavouring to have Professional Harvesting fully recognized as a legitamite chosen field of employment. Again, too much to post about this.

I appreciate your inquiries, should you have more, I will accept calls or emails, so as not to clutter this sight to much.

Mush Picker. B.C. had a few but small fires. 2 in remote areas above 1500 hctrs but 1 is close to Denetiah Park. June 2nd fire date.

North Saskatchewan is going to be the hotspot for 09. Lots of small to large fires, but access is another story.

Can forward some websites with CFFR info. leave email address.

For those of you who may be wondering.

Gerry' Wildly Natural Products and Services is a company designed to meet the growing demand for Alternative Eco-Tourism and to educate novice or beginner Morel Harvester in "Farming" and "Sustainable Harvesting" in remote locations.

Gerry offers full Accomodations, Meals, Educational Guiding and Dehydration and packaging for Guests. Flights in and out can be arranged as well.

Gerry researches multiple potential harvest sites that become available each year. From that research, the sites with the highest rating will be given a complete on site recon. Out of that research, the area with the highest potential to yield a crop is selected for a camp.

Obviously Mother Nature always plays a factor, but there are constants to every producing area every season as to what type of ground will create the morels best. All of those constants are considered before deciding on a site.

When available and financially acceptable, there may be multiple sites that can be harvested as backup to possible non-producing or low producing site selection.

Gerry will also be operating a Professional Harvester's Camp when possible. This Pro camp will offer Pro's an opprotunity to be employed by Gerry's company to come and harvest in proven grounds. All transpotation in and out, meals, accomodations (Personal), Safety gear, Harvesting Packs and when possible and feasable, motorized transportation for movement of Harvester and Mushrooms.

Gerry will only be offering this opprotunity to Pro Harvesters who are willing to have their pay subject to deductions for Tax reasons. Gerry will be matching the legaly required amounts set by Revenue Canada, as a Employer of Seasonal Harvesters. Gerry will be paying a set price per pound for the duration of the harvest, and to such a time it is no longer worth the cost of Camp.

Remember, Pro Camps are only set up in Proven Ground.

Gerry will be announcing the 09 season schedule for the Educational Guest Camp in the near future. Gerry is working on securing a Fully Certified Travel and Vacation Vendor in the US to insure that Guests are protected from losing their money.

If anyone wishes for more information Gerry can be reached by emailing gerry_landry@yahoo.com

Thanks and Have a Good Day.

Still getting matsis in the Willamette Valley. Hogs everywhere. Yellowfeet running everywhere. Big huge blacks and the whites are finally ripe.

This post is not about the "failed foray" which has been pushed off the page. This is about the mushroom industry. Chris Matherly is just another mushroom picker that should be arrested for not following the rules. While it is concerning that Chris Matherly and the morel mushroom hunting club have been accused of fraud and theft for a failed paid foray, this is not the extent of the problem. The lack of understanding of the proper processes involved in collecting mushrooms legally is the problem. Activities such as these make it more difficult for those of us trying to make a living and also follow the rules. If you are going to break state and Federal laws, at least don't advertise it in advance and don't brag about it after the fact on the Internet.

I have known Jennifer for two years. I was very surprised this spring when Jennifer told me about picking in the vicinity of one of my favorite areas. It took me years to locate that area (August and John outed it on this board several years ago when there were 500 starving pickers camped out waiting on a burn about 50 miles south of there, thanks). Jennifer went on to tell me that that Chris Matherly and the morel mushroom hunting club led a paid foray into the Badger Wilderness Area in the Mount Hood National Forest. I told her that picking in a wilderness area is a criminal offense and not to pay for any other trips with Chris Matherly. When she told me that she was paying Chris over $7000 in deposits for a yukon morel fly-in, I told her to go to Idaho instead. Should have listened, Jen.

So, how does one locate patches while a continent away? How does one walk into an area from another part of the country and become an expert? Aireal maps? The answer is much simpler. Read Matsiman to locate an experienced local contact preferrably one that is broke, hungry, homeless and unemployable and offer them some hope. Flatter them a bit, offer them some fame, money and the opportunity to live their dreams and they will do anything for you. Broke people are the best. They can't sue you if the deal goes bad since a lawyer would never sue a deadbeat on contingency. Heck, some broke people will even pick matsis for $3.00 per pound. If a local will contract to lead groups for the morel mushroom hunting club into wilderness areas, how many wilderness areas does this local pick? While one person may be able to flaunt the law, large groups are another story. It is time to make an example out of Chris Matherly, the Morel Mushroom Hunting Club and all of the co-conspirators in this ongoing criminal enterprise. The Attorneys General of Oregon and Washington, the US Forest Service Special Agents and the FBI should offer Jennifer, or any other duped parties, immunity from prosecution for their testimony against the perpetrators of these crimes. We don't need more restrictive laws on the books about mushroom collection and education, we just need to hold these flagrant violators accountable for their actions.

Thanks Andy for creating the "Judge Judy" link..... I know this is serious business for those involved. But it is Christmas time , and the mushrooms are over for most of us. There will always be naive & trusting people in the world, put there is suppose, for the shysters & crooks to prey upon. We can only hope that there is a lesson to be learned by all of us from all of this. That being----The layers are the real winners, Damn!!

Merry Christmas to all.... ( and NEVER lend someone your favorite basket)

There is only one person that has not told his side of this "Never Ending Store". I know what its like not able to have time to post the other side of "The Never Ending Store". So Give him sometime to post his side of "The Never Ending Store"before you call him a Conman. He has in the past done a lot of Forays and I have never heard any person or person's that have been taken by him. Ever cent's this Jerry person come along and ask for to much in return. Yes Chris should of taking full charger of the forey but then there was a boarder that needer to be crossed. It looks to me that when the Discover channel back out at the last minuets, Gerry decided to back out because he was not going to get his fame and company's name put on the show. No Fame no company GAIN's.

"Popularity breeds contempt," Boy George

People accused of crimes rarely lie. LoL. What is the word for a guy that charges money for a foray, does not show up at all and does not return the money? Fraud? What is the term for a guy with no guide's license that charges tourists for trips into Federal wilderness areas in at least two states to steal protected morels? Federal Criminal? Were there co-conspirators? Is this a RICO case? Stop this one man crime wave. Somebody call the US Forest Service Special Agents. Produce proof of the refund check.

you know you are bud, do you not have a conscious? everyone here loves rumors and accusations, that is a fact. listen, i called chris and spoke to him, (not hard to get a hold of at all by the way) you have had all this time here on this board just a one sided story. think about that one. ponder the thought that there is more to it than this. he didn't get to be the morel hunting guide on the travel channel and included in the modern marvels episode just by chance, he has built a reputation, unlike many of you here eager to here the dirt that isn't even true anyway. jennifer is playing games from what i have come to find out.

To Mushroom Mary. Thank-you for your expressed hope for our (Jen & I) situation and the outcome. Your expert knowledge concerning the Travel Service was very helpful.

To Andy (matsiman). I sent you an email containing the Statement and Warning I and Jennifer97302 have asked permission to post. Unfortunately I do not know how to cut and paste and therefore the Statement was attached to the email I personally sent. I hoped that would be ok.

A comment on the other board suggests that another person also has the ability to edit incoming emails or posts. I am curious if my email and attachment was some how lost in translation.

Could you personally email me a notification that you have, or have not, seen this email. If you have not, I will be re-sending after this post. Thanks for the consideration already given.

Steve, I do believe most businesses are being effected by this struggling economy, with the exception of those who clean out and fix up the foreclosed homes that have been trashed by those who departed in a funk. Right now there is big business in going into these messed up homes and cleaning and fixing the damages. Pretty sorry mess if you ask me.

How well you you know your landlord? It never hurts to just ask in a nice way..he might surprise you but you'll never know if you don't ask. Maybe not a renegotiation of the lease but he may lower the rent for a prescribed amount of time. Good luck with that.

Jennifer and Gerry, I hope you can get your money refunded..good luck to you also!

i think anyone with savings that are tied to stocks or mutual funds are suffering major steve .... on both sides of the border.... businesses the same ... at least most businesses.... the lease thing i'm not sure about down there but unless there is something in the lease allowing renegotiation the lessor doesn't have to give any concessions whatsoever.... its like an ironclad contract unless they broke the lease by negligence ... i.e not supplying things that are in the lease like water etc etc ,,,,, be careful it always favours the owner of the building not you..... although there is a thing called common decency don't expect it..... even if you just had to walk they can make you pay the full length you signed for in full with interest..... gl ger

Hey all,

I know everyone has most likely heard enough about the economy but I was wondering if it has been effecting others on the board. Lately my business has been cut by half really sucks. Does anyone know if it is a common practice to try and renegociate a lease when the economy go's to crap? Sined a long term lease and I would think it would be in his best interest I mean how is he going to find anyone with the way things have been going?

sundanzkidd,

I agree that one should use caution in all areas of life. I seem to be one who often trusts too much and believe that a hand shake or "our word" ought to bind us and be worth having.

I got 'Baited & Switched' right under my nose by a mushroom buyer of whom I trusted. I first met him buying at Crescent Junction in 1996 and got taken in by his lies a few years later.

He is known to numerous pickers who have been around for several years so I will not dredge it up for everyone to view. However I do offer this caution, 'Buyer Beware' & 'Forgiveness With Kindness' goes a long ways towards healing.

Boletus Joe,

I ran into that poor quality mushroom crap several years back at a store that I had sold fresh morels, porcini, hogs and chanterelle varieties to for several years.

Someone new came along wanting to capitalize upon what I had established and soon the new produce manager would only buy from the liar who began supplying sub-standard product once I was out of the picture.

Bait and switch - one of the oldest cons in the book, regularly used in car sales, now prominent in the mushroom industry, always buyer beware.

I personally would never pay for a foray other than gas and food, maybe lodging but that would be an exception.

All the forays iv attended were meant for personal use, making friends and having fun - IM a bit suspicious about a paying commercial foray, where the excitement exceeds the limits or the limits exceed the excitement, based on a cheap website.

What is it with these chain stores and Mushrooms. The only mushrooms I see that are properly displayed for sale are the white & brown button (Moneys) mushrooms. All the rest it seems are put on styro-boards and wrapped in plastic. I have pointed this out to the local produce markets, but they just don't get it. Their display methods it seems are governed by someone else out of the store. (higher in the food chain of command) ...and when you try to sell them some quality Channies they say they are not allowed to buy local product, or the best line of the year, "Are they organic?". So this tells me why you see such crappy looking mushrooms in the big stores... By the time they get them delivered from their wholesalers they are way over the hill.

germany17,

I love bellybutton hedgehogs, in my opinion they turn ramen soup and chili into gourmet treats.

Possibly because when picking up off the Chetco, chili & ramen were my main food groups and the hogs made the daily routine taste much better.

.... I especially love the white bellybuttons, they are the very best ....

Concerned: Rumors are not my fortay or, that of Jennifer97302. If you haven't noticed, we have supplied our "REAL" names and therefore must be prepared to justify our combined claims against an unscrupulous operator.

If you on the other hand have been "Taken" by me in the past, how about telling everyone on this board the circumstances of this event. Circumstances like. Time, Date, Location and the How would be a good start. Oh Yeah, be sure to add your real name if you wish to be considered in a serious manner. Hiding behind a web name gives your comment no credence.

It seems funny how this board will gladly expose Bad Buyers with shroomers' interests at heart, yet, now that a Foray Leader is about to be openly exposed because of those very interests, people not involved with the situation are calling the posters of the warning, or at least me,"A Liar" and leaving unconfirmed accusations.

As to my "Nerve" to "Post" on this site: Every posting I have placed on this site has always been repectful of others and in support of our industry.

Concerned, if you truely are "Sick and Tired of all this rediculous talk" then don't post as such.

Well all, it is official I am now a soldier of 1. I have passed all the test and have sworn under oath to protect this country we live in. Ie all of us in the usa. I will be shipping out in Jan for basic training and then on to my ait. After this i will be moving my family to the base of what I hope to be my choice for the next 4 years. I will miss my time of being in the woods picking mushrooms but I will live vicariously through this website and my chat with other fellow pickers. This will be a challanging New comming year. Santa will be bring my delayed Christmas bonus from the military in July. Can you all say cha-ching. I am hoping to put that first part of the bonus in the bank for a down payment on my retirement land. Well all it has been a long day of processing and I am heading off to bed. Duncan in the army!

And I know a lot of you have a opinions about how and where this should be told ...but if im not mistaken this is a mushroom forum and we all pick mushrooms and the product were being sold is defective...so im just warning fellow consumers about it that's all for now... and as for old shrooming buddy I have given chris matherly ampel time to fix this and I feel I've waited long enough.... so if any of you would like to post negative lies go right ahead I have only TRUTH

I do believe this Board is not for cutting down others and if you have problems with others you should e-mail them. No one what's to hear what you three have going but then thats for a Court to decide and not others here to act on. Chris has ask you Jennifer to contact him and you have taking the side of another that has more to do with the problem then he says. I myself would never truest Jerry and I know that other here in Canada know why. Sorry Jerry but it's the truth you are a big lier and I know more about you then you know about yourself.

Notice to all harvesters and espescially members of the Morel Mushroom Hunting Club.

This notice is written for and by Jennifer Carroll and Gerry Landry.

This Notice is in reference to Jennifer 97302's past posting seeking the truth behind who was responsible for her loosing $7,000.00am. when she signed up for a foray Chris Matherly was supposed to be setting up for his Club.

Jennifer contacted me, Gerry Landry, who was to handle the logistics for this foray. Jennifer showed a character many on this board and in the Mushroom Community should adopt when she contacted me and stated that she and her family had been ripped off by either Chris Matherly or by me, but she believes there is always two sides to a story, and she asked me mine. Once we exchanged stories, the truth of who is responsible became very evident.

We shared our personal records and saw how Chris Matherly has knowingly committed illegal acts and has caused both of us personal Injury and Damages. Acts that will be dealt with in the courts, possibly in both Federal and Civil. This decision will be made by the proper authorities.

We will be posting a Warning for anyone who is considering attending any Forays being led by Chris Matherly on behalf of himself or under the Club name. Andy, we could use your help in assigning a page on your website concerning ths matter. Understandably we would want you to personally review the statement and insure that our Claims and Grievances against Chris Matherly are legitamite before allowing the post. We are prepared to jointly share our evidence in private to you first, in order to show you that we are not spreading lies. Contact gerry_landry@yahoo.com or phone 250.782.5209 for our submission posting to be forwarded to you.

For those of you who have cast Gerry's Wildly Natural Products and Services and Gerry Landry himself as the culprit and openly slandered him and his company, I forgive you all with the exception of Chris Matherly. When I heard Jennifer Carroll's story, I was mad as well, and I honestly may have reacted in the same way as you, making unjustified comments about the $%*&^%# that left her stranded.

Thank You all

Jennifer Carroll Gerry Landry

Sundanzkidd,

I might be going out trout fishing tomorrow. They just planted 100 8=16 pound trouts close to me. I stopped by today seemed pretty hit and miss out of about 10 people 2 were caught. I caught 2 last year both about 8 pounds . I don't know if you have an Oregon license but if you have time I have the rods. The cops do come by so if you do come make sure you have a license I got checked 3 timed last year.

thanx garf yes iv looked up matsi videos and have seen some great ones, my low grade camcorder isnt worthy of good pics, im wanting to buy a new digicam this baby here - http://www.dpreview.com/news/0807/08072104panasonicfz28.asp, looks to be a good deal and , my friends pics are awesome online who use it. priced right as well.

ok ill admit iam addicted to texas holdem, play a lot of tournaments online and at the local casinos, i play alot at matsutake mushroom myspace, have 1/2 the badges....play alot at nlop for cash and prizes, with 102 tourny wins there, you might also find me at prize dome, poker stars and ultimate bet, all great places to play for fun or prizes or cash.

mushrooms have slowed way down for me i got plenty this season, so i play cards, got so much dried mushroom product not sure what to do with it all, guess make soup mix and give the stuff to friends as gifts. Germany is still hitting patches and finding stuff, due to no snow and mild temps, rare to get matsi around here in december, but he knows where to getum, when the season is like this. been one awesome year here for mushys

Evening all !! hey Garf ! haven't been out huntin much lately... last time up pembie 'bout 6 weeks ago. pines & white chants :) found a few good spots for next year... hedgehogs? all I find is the odd ones light orange with white underside with off center stem , maybe 2 inches across. are all hedgehogs edible ?? I've also seen some greyish blue caps with white underside. There was mention of candy caps , I was given some dried sample... found a cake recipe that uses candy caps cooked in a dutch oven , man the whole house smelled like maple syrup.... amazing mushroom !!! unfortunately they don't seem to grow up here... maybe our neighbours from the south ( northern cal. ) ?? could let us know if they are finding any ..... cheers ! here's some info I've found on candy caps http://www.mssf.org/mnews/0403mn.pdf full buckets to everybody !!! Sundanzkid,

By the way thanks for adding to my haul your pictures don't do justice to what we found. I took a few shots if I get time I will try to post them. Between what you added and what Stacey and I found was well over ten pounds. Oh and also what Germany gave us.

steve took me about an hour also to clean my pile, got a load of hedgys dried and a batch of yellow feet dried, still got a batch of each to go - spent the day in lincoln city and watched an incredible sunset, looked for boletes and some other winter type mushys, with no luck, well wasnt my top priority, but i did try to find some special mushys, that casino fed me gave me hooch and plus let me bring home some cash. they got a nice bar with a view.

matsis, hedge hogs and yellow feet http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/sundanzkidd/fromthestore.jpg

hedge hogs http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/sundanzkidd/perfecthedgehogs.jpg

yellow foot chanterelles http://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/sundanzkidd/yellowfootchantys.jpg

all of us got about the same amounts of groceries, still jazzed about that outing, must do a repeat, maybe add a couple more friends to the guest list - could have used some brandy up there...... though, next time.

well sounds like you all had a good time picking on the weekend and would love to see pics of the mushrooms if any can ..... as for the paying for mushroom trips .... to each their own but for petes sake its free ground to go look for yourself and there are and is tons of information out there to get you going .... for morels theres maps where the fires were the previous yrs and for the others theres legs for getting out and doing hikes and finding patches....or maybe freinds that won't charge you..... no excuse for scamming though.... ger
