Whats the big deal about needing a permit in sask? You want to harvest forest (public) for profit and yet not pay for the priviledge? Do you want timber companies to do the same?

Here is a piece of the email response I received from the Ministry of the Environment in Saskatchewan: Buyers would be required to have an operating plan and permit. Pickers would be under the responsibility of the buyer. Commercial Forest Product Permit fee is $50 plus GST. Contact me if you have questions. Henry. It's easy to start a mushroom supply Company. The problem is having the supply of product for your customer base. Then there is also the Big Boys you will have to contend with. With the right approach and a strong determination,(and lots of money) one can compete. Just have the right attitude towards those that harvest and sell to you and treat them with the respect you would expect to receive. Maintain a proffesional attitude and be prepared to create a symbiotic relationship with your loyal harvesters. Also, be Contract Smart when it comes to dealing with "The Joes". They will Abuse you if they can. Two Canadian Company's you can trust are Mo-Na and Misty Mountain. Good Luck and if you want some more info regarding setting up a Wild Mushroom Supply Co. just call me. 250-782-5209. Gerry.

Thanks for the link on the Saskatchewan permits. It seems pretty clear that it is only the buyers that need the permit and not the individual pickers.

I don't think Sask knows which ministry is supposed to be looking after this. I contacted the Agriculture ministry months ago and they are supposed to be the ones with all the info. They gave me plenty of help and links to other sites and not one word about permits.

If Govt would just let the buyers buy a few permits and let them sell them to the pickers we could avoid a lot of hassles... But I guess that would be too easy ;-)

Howdy all. Hope you folks had a great spring up north. I found a total of 15 m. Elata and 1 m. Esculenta in new mexico this spring. Weve been getting a hell of alot of rain and if it keeps up it should be an epic year for porcini and chanterelle in the southern rockies....not that its worth you coming down as shipping is nearly impossible. Full buckets everyone! Be safe out there.

Went For A Hike At A Different Fire And Found About 8lbs Of Morels In An Hour. I'm Just Scouting Around. Looks Like There Will Enough To Make It Worth It In The Long Run. Fires In This Area (BC Interior) Are Pretty Small And Scattered So I'm Drying All I Find. How Are The Rest Of You Making Out This Year? Hopfully Better Then I Am. Next Year Looks Better Than This One. No Large Acessible Fires This Year In My Area. Pretty Sad My Buckets Are Anything But Full. Well Good Luck Everyone. Might Have To Check Out A Few Other Areas And See Whats Happening. I Will Let You Know What I Come Up With. Good Luck Pickers. Harvester Out!

To All. Just been notified that Sask. is showing babies. Locals in Uranium City say the season is 1 week to 10 days behind but the next week should start the crops. Northern B.C. is yet to start and we got frost again last nite. Only two fires to speak of and both need Riverboat or some major quading to get to. Best option for North B.C. is the Muskwa Fire. Just be prepared to dry your shrooms as there will be no one there to buy. Maybe. Safe Harvest to All Gerry
