arty_glass,are you saying that only the buyers need a permit?
hey anybody heard the news from garmin concerning the new oregon 550t gps if anyone knows when they will be ready to order please let me know
Whats the big deal about needing a permit in sask? You want to harvest forest (public) for profit and yet not pay for the priviledge? Do you want timber companies to do the same?
HI Andy, Neil would like to know if you have the most current spore count report that you could send to us
Here is a piece of the email response I received from the Ministry of the Environment in Saskatchewan: Buyers would be required to have an operating plan and permit. Pickers would be under the responsibility of the buyer. Commercial Forest Product Permit fee is $50 plus GST. Contact me if you have questions. Bruce Walter Area Forester Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Forest Service Branch Box 3003 Prince Albert SK S6V 6G1 Ph. 306-953-2324; Fax: 306-953-2360 Bruce.Walter@gov.sk.ca
Henry. It's easy to start a mushroom supply Company. The problem is having the supply of product for your customer base. Then there is also the Big Boys you will have to contend with. With the right approach and a strong determination,(and lots of money) one can compete. Just have the right attitude towards those that harvest and sell to you and treat them with the respect you would expect to receive. Maintain a proffesional attitude and be prepared to create a symbiotic relationship with your loyal harvesters. Also, be Contract Smart when it comes to dealing with "The Joes". They will Abuse you if they can. Two Canadian Company's you can trust are Mo-Na and Misty Mountain. Good Luck and if you want some more info regarding setting up a Wild Mushroom Supply Co. just call me. 250-782-5209. Gerry.
for those that still are not sure .. permits are required for all pickers at 55 dollars, 2 days to process. I left there on teusday, nice fire , no morels, buyers are there and so are pickers, hope the shrooms show up for them!!
HI Andy, I need an MSDS Sheet for the Ecto we get ASAP. Please Please

Safe travels WONDERING ONE......keep us posted!!! fds
Henry, Tim Hortons is hiring!!!
Nothing new about Sask permits.....thay had the same permit for "buyers only" more than 10 years ago ! Snooooooooze !
Thanks for the link on the Saskatchewan permits. It seems pretty clear that it is only the buyers that need the permit and not the individual pickers.
Sport, just got in last night.Finishing off some drying then I'm gone.Got some inside info, did some research.....and my face lit up !I'm gone within 2 days.Fisher is broke down...going no where in his newer car. IT'S TIME TO GO !!!!
Yeah, its a joke.....most of the pickers will be in the bush drying anyways....They`ll have to set roadblocks...and then you could always say "Hey I didnt pick these, bought them from some Mexicans" You still going up? Sport
Greetings All, had some time so I ran down the Saskatchewan NTFP permit question. Found a PDF document entitled Non-Timber Forest Products Law and Policy Saskatchewan. Later, Matsiman
I don't think Sask knows which ministry is supposed to be looking after this. I contacted the Agriculture ministry months ago and they are supposed to be the ones with all the info. They gave me plenty of help and links to other sites and not one word about permits.
If Govt would just let the buyers buy a few permits and let them sell them to the pickers we could avoid a lot of hassles... But I guess that would be too easy ;-)
Hey Sport, what will they do if you're drying back on the burn....wait for you at the liquor store?? LOL! Hey you....you're either a coal miner or a morel picker ! Do you have a permit for either ? LMAO !
Saskrepublic, are the permits only required in Sask. or are they now going to be required in other provinces as well?
matsiman(andy) we took some photos of the sask permits(operating plan) requirements and emailed them to you. we blacked out all personal info,so feel free to post permit conditions on matsiman. saskrepublic
can anyone tell me the first step into opening a mushroom supply company is ? in canada!
Sask. govt. ministry of environment. 306 787 0741 have a friend calling them tomorrow will post any new info.
applications for non timber forest products permits must be obtained from the Sask. govt. Ministry of the Environment. Sorry no email or phone # yet, still looking. They wont have to patrol thousands of acres, just sit at buying stations
saskrepublic, Thanks for the info. New rules and regulations pop up all the time. Hard to keep up with them. Can you give us a contact, email, website or phone number. Some visitors might appreciate the info. They came up with one for home use permites. all mushrooms must be cut in half down the stem. Later, Matsiman
Sask Republic.....Do you really think there`s going to be enough personell to patrol or even check for permits in the THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS of hectares of burns...Nice try!!!! Wheres the Sask. gov. link to this?.........30 days???? there goes the peak of the season. What a joke!!!!! S
Hey Jtorell, only one sure way to find out buddy........GO AND HAVE A LOOK !!!!!!

Howdy all. Hope you folks had a great spring up north. I found a total of 15 m. Elata and 1 m. Esculenta in new mexico this spring. Weve been getting a hell of alot of rain and if it keeps up it should be an epic year for porcini and chanterelle in the southern rockies....not that its worth you coming down as shipping is nearly impossible. Full buckets everyone! Be safe out there.
Hi anybody have any news on sask morels yet?Hopeing to head out there soon. Thanks rover.
Evening all !! out hiking to an alpine lake this past weekend , my wife and I came across something quite unusual .... esculentas had grown right near the shore... then up came the water level .... about a foot in a day or so I figure we were literally fishing for morels LOL !! We were plucking morels underwater !!! as fresh as they can be !!! didn't have clean them at all !! LOL kept them nice and DRY for the ride home .... they tasted delicious as always :) have a couple of pics. mediocre quality ... http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z96/samder007/DSCN3371.jpg http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z96/samder007/DSCN3372.jpg Hoping to hit some edulis patches soooon !!! full buckets !!!! Snow across some parts of BC,Alberta,Saskatchewan,Manitoba and Northern Ontario today !WTF it's June ! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh !!Over 272 fires in Saskatchewan this year so far. Yikes !
Went For A Hike At A Different Fire And Found About 8lbs Of Morels In An Hour. I'm Just Scouting Around. Looks Like There Will Enough To Make It Worth It In The Long Run. Fires In This Area (BC Interior) Are Pretty Small And Scattered So I'm Drying All I Find. How Are The Rest Of You Making Out This Year? Hopfully Better Then I Am. Next Year Looks Better Than This One. No Large Acessible Fires This Year In My Area. Pretty Sad My Buckets Are Anything But Full. Well Good Luck Everyone. Might Have To Check Out A Few Other Areas And See Whats Happening. I Will Let You Know What I Come Up With. Good Luck Pickers. Harvester Out!
we had an early may fire and then a cold snap [including snow] in the east Kootenays .Is it possible that morels will show up this year. Im asking you guys as a collective, cause my experience is limited to afew years of picking.
Ahhhhhh! I can see the Smoke ....and taste the price of morels going up !BC,Saskatchewan and Alberta are burning at this moment !Saskatchewan already has had more fires than last year, way more than average year...and the fire season has just started !!!! (Joe Cringes !) LOL !!!!!

Howdy all, Am looking at taking my kids camping in the Cathedral provincial park in BC next week and was hoping folks could tell me what the weather is like there now and any good campgrounds. Thanks. Daddy in Wa
To All. Just been notified that Sask. is showing babies. Locals in Uranium City say the season is 1 week to 10 days behind but the next week should start the crops. Northern B.C. is yet to start and we got frost again last nite. Only two fires to speak of and both need Riverboat or some major quading to get to. Best option for North B.C. is the Muskwa Fire. Just be prepared to dry your shrooms as there will be no one there to buy. Maybe. Safe Harvest to All Gerry
